I need handgun recommendations
I passed the NRA pistol class last weekend, so I can now legally buy a gun here in Hawaii. Problem is, I don't know too much about them yet, so I need some recommendations.
I've shot a couple Sigs and a Glock, and I think I like the Glock better. I just got back from shooting a Ruger .357 Magnum, and kinda liked that, but I think I want a semiautomatic. I'll mainly be using it for range shooting, so please give me some recommendations. :thumbsup |
:(:(:(:( they wont give me a license here

If you're not a felon they can't deny you of your Constitutional Right to own a gun. :2 cents: |
and you need a handgun why?

a 50 cal desert eagle. :)
Actually I am more of a fan of revolvers, really like a small snub nosed pistol for a handgun. Specially since odds are you will not need more than six shots for personal protection. Now for my real cecommendation - never turn a gun side ways when firing no matter how cool it looks in the movies. Specially if its a semi such as a glock. |

Glock 19

Don't buy a Glock.. way over rated. Look into H&K for a quality pistol.

Go to the range and rent as many as you can. Find out what fits your hand. You are a smaller build, so grip can be important. .45's are good, look at 1911's. I'd recommened a 9mm for you.
Sigs, HK, GLOCK, even SA XD's are all great guns. |
I would suggest an XD

[/QUOTE] love my 1911's. have 2, the 9mm's just don't punch like a 1911 and the slug travels so fast. I was afraid it would go through to many walls when I needed to use it in the house. find a small dark room to bang your gun off in after you get it. this way you'll have some idea what to expect if ya need to use it some night unexpectedly in your house. banging rounds off at night in your bedroom is way different that banging rounds off at the range. and remember this: lots of people get killed with 'unloaded' guns. always be careful. a gun is not a toy. -bmb |

Forget the glock
glock is to quality handguns what mcdonalds is to quality food the .45 ACP 1911 is decent as is the SIG-Sauer P225 The S&W and Ruger Wheel guns are good choices as well Go for a 3 inch barrel Makarov is decent but parts can be a problem Makarov is known for being almost as reliable as the Sigs The Bersa Thunder is pretty well regarded as well If you want firepower the desert fox .50 is a canon, if you can shoot it accurately and comfortably No matter which handgun you buy nothing is a substitute for proficiency....practice practice practice. As a self defense weapon it should feel natural and the operation should be instinctive and that only comes with consistant practice. |
Start off with something ya can learn with and get better with like a SW 45.

Reminded me of when I first fired what I nickname the pipe. A passed down through the family single shot break away 12 gauge shotgun with a solid wood stock, no rubber cushion etc. I since traded my .50 for a good number of damn punk ass tech 9's which I droped off in a so cal gun show in a few hours at twice the price. Yeah I know not the most fucking moral thing in the world but fuck it I was flat ass broke, my damn comic store had been burglarized, the police did not give a shit, most of the expensive shit couldnt be insured so I was pissed at the fucking world and the system. |
I would go with the good old Berreta 92 or CZ 75 / CZ 85 compact - reliable, accurate, although I like all the revolvers too..

The Ruger is gangster...

yup yup, revolvers are the way to go IMO....Smith & Wesson .45 for me, but if you must go semi-auto, Sig's & Smith & Wesson are top notch:thumbsup |
I've fired quite a few. I have a Glock 19 personally. My other choice would have been a Springfield XD. The XD has a few more safeties on it, which is somewhat a personal preference.
I don't get the point of recommending a $2500.00 gun to someone just doing range shooting. I could see it if he mentioned wanting to collect guns. I'm thinking he'd just want simple and reliable. Topglock.com usually has really good prices on Glocks. |
