Looking at houses in AZ ... I have Questions ..??

I've been thinking of moving out of NY for some time now. So I've been looking around online. I've always had some kinda love for AZ but I don't know what area's are nice for raising a family. The #1 thing for me are the schools and I also don't want to be living on top of my neighbors . I need a nice size yard and a pool. i can't seem to find what I'm looking for online but it would help if i could narrow it down to a few area's.

All my NY bro's don't worry ...I'm just looking I'm not sure i could ever leave NY but its a thought..

Hey Mike,
I live in North Phoenix, about 40 minutes North of the airport, and there are tons of homes, both track and custom, up here that have large lots or acreage seperating homes. I would recommend looking in 85086 or 85085 zip, Peoria North, or New River, Cave Creek or North Scottsdale if you dont mind being a bit out of the grind of the city.

I love the area up here and am a quick drive from all I need. There are also pretty expensive areas closer to or in the city that have the same type dwellings but they are quite a bit more expensive than some of the outer areas of Phoenix.

I have 2 kids, 11 and 5, and the schools are phenominal in this area. You can find good schools in most areas in Phoenix but really have to check to be sure you are in the right area.

Hit me up if you want me to grab you some info or give you a hand.

Paul

I'll be totally honest, the schools out here are among the worst in the country. There are a few private schools that are OK to Good. Nothing great. Now is a great time to buy here since prices have dropped (maybe even wait 6 more months). I like Downtown Scottsdale personally but for a family, Central or North Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, Chandler or even Gilbert might be better options.

Hey Paul, didnt see ur comment til after I posted. I always see stories bashing the schools here. Didnt know there was even 1 public school in the top 25 in the country for any level.

The schools in Ahwatukee are pretty good since it's a rich area. The only down side is that it's quite a hike to Tempe and Phoenix.

No worries.

I have spent a ton of times looking at schools out here and have really looked at individual grade or teacher performance rather than overall school ratings. My wife and I have the youngest in a private Montesori School and am really happy with it. Our oldest is in an older public school and the GATE program is one of the top in the country. The overall school grades werent great but the GATE program and the teacher who runs it really impressed us.

Thanks for the info. I don't mind being out of the way and kinda prefer it. That's the main reason i moved out east on long Island. I need at least a 1/2 acre of land so i can have a nice Pool/BBQ area and a play area for the kids. I love the place i have now but the taxes are crazy and even out here its starting to get crowded .

I'm going to look online and if i come across a few things and have questions I'll hit you up.:thumbsup

Absolutely. Hit me up anytime. I live in a small, gated community with all of the lots being between 1/4 and 3/4s of an acre and I really like it. There are neighbors pretty close but I still have rv access in between my house and the next and it gives my kids an opportunity to live in a place where there are a ton of kids around to play with. I built a huge outdoor bbq/kitchen and a pool as well. I couldnt agree with you more about the yard. We spend as much time as possible in the pool or playing in the yard.

Wont you melt?

RayVega 10-22-2007 07:28 PM

Bro, I hear ya loud and clear i've been looking for a while.

There's a site findyourspot.com that has eight pages of questionaires and then recommends cities based on what you enter. For me it suggests: Several cities in AZ, VA, NC, And St. louis Missouri believe it or not.

It also has lots of info about the cities, schools, houses for sale etc.

Check it out.

MikeVega 10-22-2007 07:29 PM

Yo .. PimpPorn .. Private schools are an option if i found something i really liked in a good area but the school district was big and shitty ... i guess I'll cross that bridge when i get there.

OG LennyT 10-22-2007 07:30 PM

The schools in this state fucking suck but the 85326 is sweet country living outside the big city.

MikeVega 10-23-2007 02:35 AM

thanks for all the good info guys ... now i have a starting point to look around.

sternyduke 10-23-2007 02:48 AM

i have a condo in scottsdale, but i'm single so it makes sense for me to have a place surrounded by 50 or so clubs, bars, lounges, and places to eat within a 1/4 mile radius. to raise a family chandler, gilbert, glendale, and awatukee come to mind. arizona is light years behind san diego in terms of culture but people still migrate here for some reason. message me if you have any questions :thumbsup

After Shock Media 10-23-2007 02:51 AM

I see people bashing the public schools, and not so high rankings on the private schools. Does AZ have any good charter schools? Some of them have been kicking some major ass around here were the previous schools sucked major ass.

sternyduke 10-23-2007 05:30 AM

here's another area mike that might be what your looking for:
