Wanna party with your paypal money...BEWARE!!
If you just got a paypal payment for $100 and feel like blowing it at the bar then no problem.....unless!!!!!!!!!!!!!
you stop at the gas station and run the card at the pump. I just happen to pump some gas with my paypal and they now are sending email when I make a transaction. So I logged in just to see how fast that all went in and saw a hold on funds for $85. The gas pump pre-authorized me for $85 and it's still on hold. I'm not sure about this but if someone had just $100 and pumped some gas then went to the bar they might get a big surprise when they try to pay the $50 tab. :1orglaugh:1orglaugh Maybe they catch this but I have no clue. Anybody know about this for sure? |
Same thing happens with an epass card and it takes about 30 days for the hold to be removed... pretty annoying.

Um dude this is common practice for not only gas stations but also often happens in restaurants. It has nothing to do with paypal either.
They do a quick charge to make sure the card has enough room as a buffer. Since they have no real idea on how much gas you will actually pump. Then they place the actual charge on your card when you finalize your pumping. This comes out of the hold amount and if there is any left over they quickly return it to your credit or debit card. Good news is that paypal adds it back fast unlike epassporte. As for restaurants, they add a similar buffer for any tip you may wish to leave after you pay for your meal. Your buffer amount will not begin to be credited back until they run their credit card batch. This also happens with all credit cards as well as debit cards. |
never had any problems with mine, they will most likely release the rest of it after a few days

Use cash at the bar, bartenders are more likely to give you better service when you tip them after each drink, than if you tip them at the end of the night with a credit card. So if you go to the ATM and get out your $100, you will not have a problem like that.

We all know bartenders and waitresses wants traceable funds via credit cards unlike cash for tax purposes silly. |

Everybody knows that. The issue here is that it's still on hold. |
So, nobody answered the question yet.
Will the $50 charge an hour later bounce or will paypal figure this out and let it go thru? |

And the bigger question is why would you spend $50 at the bar if you only have $100 to your name?

But they still want to "go out" without owning anyone. :1orglaugh |

paypal and their debit card is not a credit card.
I.E. there is no over limit charges. If it allowed you to go over it will figure itself out. Though it is possible to put yourself in a negative balance via paypal and gas stations. However they will figure out your hold issue so do not worry. |
