Cheapest but not too dangerous place to live in Europe?
 

I have a plan to stay in a small town in europe for an extended period of time if possible. Say 6 month to 1 year. Is there any cheap and not too dangerous english-speaking friendly town/village in Europe?

Mmmm... European countries generally speak their own languages and are not particularly known for being dangerous :winkwink:

If you want a totally English-speaking country - try the UK, but depending what you call cheap - Europe and the UK is not generallly cheap.

Banska Bystrica in Slovakia. Beautiful town, lots of green, most gorgeous women you have every seen, reasonably priced, all convenient facilities at hand.

try bulgaria, its very cheap and very very nice.

look up a place called Ravda, great place!

Try countries in Eastern Europe. Ukraine is cheap as hell, but not too English speaking people there. Bulgaria is OK as well.

Again, try somewhere in UK, best place if you are not bugged by too much human density and busy life.

What about Afghanistan, if you can consider Asia? :winkwink:

Most of Europe is pretty expensive... Probably need to go to the east to find something that is moderately cheap.

Spain is nice, and on the south coast there are so many english people / businesses anyways, so language is not that big a problem if you do not speak spanish.

Well, I am in Iasi, Romania. I'm an American citezen and it't not dangerous in my neck of the woods....

There's no way that anyone could call the uk a cheap place to live certainly not the south it's the highest priced place to live you would have to look the north of the uk and scotland for the cheapest places and the cheapest places to buy will be in the very run down areas of the uk. In the south a 1 bedroom apartment in a cheap area will now set you back 100,000k and thats for a small place. A basement section in a part of a old house in certain parts of london will set you back that much alone as well. Bulgaria and romania and places like that are the cheapest places to look and people from other country's have being investing in property and converting and upgrading old building stock to try and make substantial profits when selling them however these countrys have their problems such as unstable economys etc so theirs always flaws it depends on your own financial situation too.

you can lose your car very easy there :) ..its a very nice country especially in the summer.

as someone mentioned slovakia is much expensive than czech republic. in our capital city prague you can find places where you will hear only english language ;) and we are close to mountains, half day to the see, few hours to amsterdam etc ...

What about Estonia? Tallinn is a very cool place, cheap, close to Finland and doesn't seem to have much crime there.

French Riviera is most definately safe and friendly to UK/US people, but it's really not cheap... Actually I don't think any place in europe is "cheap" for americans for now considering the current conversion rate of the USD...

Depends what your understanding of cheap is. Cheap drinks? Cheap food? Cheap rent? Cheap compared to what? US? Compared to which state/city in US?

Try to choose one of the European Union countries. All of them are safe, stable, not dangerous and some of the newest are cheap too.

Or try some of the turist destinations where almost everybode speaks little bit english. I love Madeira, it's an island of permanent spring. A lot of nature, beautiful architecture, friendly ppl, I just love to visit it next year and I can easily imagine spearing the rest of my life there...But I'm not sure it's cheap.

I can recommend you Slovakia or Czech Republic, some of their towns are pretty nice, both of them are safe (part of European Union), cheap with friendly citizens.

I would recommend any eastern block country, but safety might not be optimal. Try any uncharted country you can find if you are not afraid to learn a language and deal with the lingual problems associated with living in a country where few speak your tongue.

Hey there stillsexy, whilst not on mainland Europe you might want to consider www.tenerife.com which is the largest of the Canary Islands and belongs to Spain.

Low cost of living, Is is relatively easy to get by with English, great all-year round good weather and easy flight connections to Europe.

Most of Western Europe is expensive and English is not widely spoken in all the countries. I´ve been around a lot and I think southern Spain might be a choice if you search for an area that is populated mostly by English speaking folks...

I can't imagine living some place where almost nobody speaks English. It would help if I could speak more than one language lol.

Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina... you can live with 20 dollars a day and be a king.

Safe places in brazil: Florianopolis, Maceio or the north..

Safe places in Uruguay: Punta dle este, Colonia or any other city.

Safe places in Argentina: Capital City, Patagonia or Mendoza city

Yeah, if the weather is important, the Canary Islands is definitely one of the best places to go.

id say usd30 a day....its basicly like 2 bucks a pack for smokes, food is cheap as fuck, i buy fresh every day, nothin in the fridge, and as far as accomidation, i live quite superb.

Going out, well, that depends if your buying for 10 or 1. One person (yourself) well hell yeah, get smashed for 15 bucks, 10, your paying for 2 in america.....
