http://www.fas.org/irp/program/disseminate/siprnet.htm

The Secret Internet Protocol Router Network (SIPRNET) has matured to be the core of our warfighting command and control capability. Many expeditionary commanders ask for SIPRNET ahead of secure voice when deploying their forces. SIPRNET is fast becoming the defacto standard of preferred data services, even over NIPRNET. The SIPRNET is the new, worldwide router-based network replacing the older X.25-based packet switched network (the Defense Secure Network One (DSNET1) of the Defense Data Network (DDN)). The initial SIPRNET backbone router network went online 3 March 1994. Subscribers started coming on line shortly thereafter. The SIPRNET WAN (as of 31 May 1995) consisted of a collection of 31 backbone routers interconnected by high-speed serial links to serve the long-haul data transport needs of secret-level DoD subscribers. Additional SIPRNET backbone routers are being planned to meet increased customer requirements. SIPRNET supports the DoD standard Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) protocol service. Subscribers within the DoD and other Government Agencies are able to use the SIPRNET for passing datagrams at the Secret-Not Releasable to Foreign Nationals (SECRET-NOFORN) classification level.:Oh crap

:Oh crap

Breaking news?

Anyone that's worked in the government sector can tell you SIPRNET's been around for a loooooong time.

While it's not widely publicized, it's certainly well known. :2 cents:

tony286 10-19-2007 06:10 PM

is it like their intranet?

GrouchyAdmin 10-19-2007 06:11 PM

It's just TCP/IP, dude. Just because they're not in the root-servers doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. It's like telephones with unlisted numbers.

Serious? I was a Network Defense Specialist (doing Vulnerability Assessments) for a major command in charge of 12 different bases across the Air Force for the 4 years I was enlisted. As anyone that has been in the military knows to get a job like that is fucking lucky, specially since it was right after basic/school and I lasted my whole enlistment in the same job when people where moving around every 2 years.

I also never got deployed :D

In other breaking news, US military forces have secret hand signals that they use on the battle field. When will it end???!!!!!!???!!?!?!!!!?!?!?!?!?!

Shaze 10-19-2007 08:00 PM

Do you know it's really simple to setup your own www network that isn't part of the regular web? All you need is your own DNS resolution servers, let people know where to set their DNS resolution on their computer, and your all set with your own secret network!!!

Seriously, it is that easy. :thumbsup

They all agreed that germ warfare is bad, and I for one, believe them that they are no longer creating bioweap....sorry, I just can't finish this statement, even in jest.
