Do you post in the buy / sell forum here?

This is for the people who make posts on GFY who are looking to buy or sell something, a service, domain, etc...

I have a Honest, Serious Question for you.

What would it take to get you to make a free classifieds ad on my site. Is there are reason why you wouldn't? Is there something that I missed that would discourage you from using the site? Is it because you don't like me? Whatever the reason I am looking for feedback to see what I am missing here. Do I have to pay people $5 to a make a free ad? Just trying to figure this one out.

I ran a contest here that gave everyone who made a free classifieds ad the chance to win up to $500. 1 person will win. I have had 35 ads made on the site. The odds are looking good for the people who made classified ads, especially since the more you make t he more your odds go up. So it seems giving people an incentive $$$ didn't seem to make a difference.

So I am at a lost here. The site obviously gets traffic, according to alexa I am getting more traffic than most small forums. Whether you like alexa or not it shows i am at least getting activity on my site. I could see if the site was dead, you wouldn't want to waste your time placing an ad there. Yes you need to make an account to place your ad, this takes at most 1 minute to do. You can copy and paste what you posted on GFY as your ad on my site, max time would take you 1 minute to make the classfied ad. You get free traffic from it. If you are looking to sell something why not display it in more places and give yourself more exposure??

Someone help me out, what am i missing ?

to me, the mass amounts of eyes gfy has over your site, i've made a post on your site, have yet to get an offer, but i made a similar post on here, and got offers right away... thats my look on it, keep up the work and try to get more people interested in buying/selling actually looking at the site, and you have a good thing going

Gordon G 10-19-2007 04:20 PM

I just don't like your site

It is poorly laid out and i just don't think it is a good concept.

minusonebit 10-19-2007 04:30 PM

Because I haven't had time to do it yet. Never mind the fact that your site has broken stuff. That check availability of user name link is not working in Firefox.

I understand that, but if that was the logic people used people wouldn't post on any sites other than GFY, and we know this is not the case. I know i dont have 100/th the traffic and i am not expecting people to choose my site over GFY... the question i had was if you were looking to sell something and wanted free exposure why not do it in more than one place especially if it was free and took you 2 minutes to do?

Actually it is fixed and has been fixed for some time now. Someone pointed this out weeks ago (may have been you) and I had my programmer fix it. I just double checked and it worked fine in IE and FF.

If you find any other broken stuff please let me know. it is the only way I can get it fixed. there is about a million different parts to the site and I try to go through as much as possible, i need feedback to catch everything.

It didn't work for me when I opened my account up a few minutes ago. I use Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.8.1.8) Gecko/20071008 Firefox/2.0.0.8.

Need a way to edit ads already posted. I assume the only way to do that now is to repost + delete?

i'm using FF 1.0 i will have to try it with the version you are using.

to edit your ad is pretty easy. Once you are logged in, on the top left of all pages there is a link that says " My Classified Posts (#) " It shows you how many ads you have made. You click that link and it displays all your ads. To the right of each ad it says " edit this ad" click that, make your changes and click "edit" button when your are done.

Ah, didn't see that over there. All I saw was the delete button and All/None sections. :thumbsup

Try hiring a small army of dedicated sig whores to fly a banner for a few months... and try making threads on GFY and other boards whenever something interesting is posted for sale on your site.

CyberHustler 10-19-2007 05:55 PM

You could also hire somebody to privately hit up everyone who posts something for sale in the Buy and Sell forum letting them know they could also post it on your site.

thats pretty much what i am doing. I have someone posting on other boards directing people to my classified area when someone is looking to hire someone or buy something. I also posted on several other boards about it.

maybe i wasnt doing it enough.

ThumbLord 10-19-2007 06:06 PM

yes I did try to sell some domains, no luck though.
and yes I do check it as in twice a month

halfpint 10-19-2007 06:32 PM

I would give it more time, I can remember a uk classifieds website which I used to post on, It took about a year and a half to really get going, I dont know how much it was advertised but now its really popular, When it first started it looked shitty and they allowed adult posts on it, now that it is so popular the adult side of it has gone its been revamed and i dont use it because its so bloody slow now. I have also seen your ad on other forums.

If you want someone to hit people up when they are advertising..I can do it for you, I have plenty of time on my hands.:)

fatfoo 10-20-2007 10:13 PM

i already made an ad there

polish_aristocrat 10-21-2007 04:58 AM

willllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll

i wonder if your referral matrix site has people only from GFY or also from other boards?

personally i feel like a resource site like yours should have there lots of people who arent regular GFY'ers at all, because if not, then indeed posting "for sale ads" on GFY can be sufficient, if your site has exactly the same people browsing it, who are browsing GFY

Fizzgig 10-21-2007 09:02 AM

Free classified ads isn't a bad idea at allj; it's nothing new but people have done well with them before.

spacedog 10-21-2007 09:04 AM

I tried a couple times..

Your pages take forever to load..

login isn't working..

I gave up.

digifan 10-21-2007 09:04 AM

I am not posting there sorry.

KrisKross 10-21-2007 09:07 AM

That peterk guy in the Buy/Sell forum spamming your site annoys me.

I honestly think that a $5 or $500 incentive is the wrong way to go.. why don't you give people who post now a chance to win banner advertising or a "sponsored classified result".. something to give their BUSINESS incentive.. I don't know about you but $5 or $500 isn't really going to break the bank.. especially that most serious companies on here who do post in buy/sell forum are serious companies.. and they are looking for a way to benefit their company not $5..
