I was hoping that he would walk on his own terms. Yeah the Yankees have a history, yeah lots of bullshit.....
He's a great manager, plain and simple. Coming back would do what for him? He's had one of the most successful managing careers ever and the pressure keeps getting higher and higher???? For me, the 7 mil wouldn't make a difference at that point. I would love to see him sign on with another club and bring them to the playoffs/WS within 2 years. That would be hillarious. And then see the Yanks keep not quite getting it done despite spending sooooo much freakin money.
When push comes to shove, the manager can do his thing, but it's up to the players to succeed. If they can't do their job, the best the manager can hope for is a good dose of luck.
Think Mattingly will have an easier time? or Girardi??? No one is going to walk into that clubhouse and bring them to the WS next year. It just won't happen. Torre is/was their best shot at that happening with the current lineup.
