WTF?! City outlaws smoking OUTDOORS?

The Oakland City Council unanimously approved an ordinance Tuesday that makes it illegal to smoke in outdoor dining areas, ATM lines, parks and bus stops.

I understand the concern re second hand smoke but isn't this going a bit too far?

In Quebec, it is against the law to smoke within X hundreds of feet of a hospital entrance, as an example. Smoking kills, it's a fact. Those who don't smoke shouldn't ever be exposed to this risk.

No outlaws should be allowed to smoke outdoors anyhow :2 cents:

I think it's 8 meters from the entrances of hospitals, schools, universities... etc...

I think it's a good law.

Pisses me off to go some place to eat, and you can not get in for the cloud of smoke outside the front doors

nice law to come up with.......

Good idea, I think.

Second-Hand smoke is bad... whether it be in a confined space, or simply a public gathering area where the cloud sits a bit before it has a chance to disperse.

Those that smoke should be free to do so provided they respect other peoples' rights to not smoke. :2 cents:
