Debbie Does Dallas?!

SO question for you older folks... it's something that just came into my head, but does anyone know why the original 'Debbie Does Dallas' was so fucking popular?! I remember as a kid always hearing references to it & basically that one movie represented the whole porn industry for me as a kid as if that was the only movie of with tits.

To this day I still haven't seen it, but I think I may sit down one day and watch it just to see what all the hype was about growing up.

Who has the answers to my burning question?! Fill me in, what made this movie set itself apart from every other porn?

spunkmaster 10-17-2007 12:59 AM

I think it was one of the first big screen films to come out. It wasn't 8MM black and white like all the other adult films and it could be shown on big movie screens ?

I remember watching it back in 1979 or 1980 at a movie theatre with a bunch of people smoking and drinking beer.

LeRoy 10-17-2007 01:40 AM

Yah I had a copy on "Betamax". I stole it from my next door neighbor when I was 10.Some hot blonde fucking. Nothing like what we see now. Glad you brought that up though. Good times.

the Shemp 10-17-2007 01:48 AM

by porn standards, it wasnt a great movie....

Wrong...it was huge because the Dallas Cowboys were one of the most famous NFL teams flying around the world which is one of the reasons they were called America's Team.

During the height of their popularity, the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders became famous too, traveling around the world performing their squad dances...they even made a couple of movies based on the Cowboy Cheerleaders...so someone in porn did like they always do...exploited that popularity.

PaulB IYP 10-17-2007 09:46 AM

just watched for the first time a couple weeks ago
wicked movie
reason why it was so popular is because "Debbie" is fucking hot

Brother Bilo 10-17-2007 09:48 AM

It was the first porn I ever saw, we stole it out of my buddies parents room. Way too much bush! I think it went off because like what he said about the Cowboy Cheeleaders being popular, but also, it's a catchy name. People still bring that shit up and have still never seen it, just because of the name.

Example, this thread.

" I will take PORN for a thousand, Alex "

I distributed that vid in Canada in the early 80's ... First day , I moved the 500 units that had been duplicated...

Not surprised...it was a hugely popular film...I miss the old porn days where they had stories...LOL

My favorite is Through The Looking Glass...it took me a few years but I finally found a copy on DVD about 1 1/2 years ago

CelebrityFanChat Raph 10-17-2007 10:02 AM

i watched that film and i find it funny. classic porn. and i agree, debbie is hot.

tranza 10-17-2007 10:12 AM

This thread is worthless without a screen cap of the cover..

Drake 10-17-2007 10:36 AM

I've never seen it either. It's probably unwatchable for those of us accustomed to modern porn anyway.

baddog 10-17-2007 10:42 AM

I preferred the Devil in Miss Jones and Behind the Green Door

"Modern porn" is virtual amateurs using awesome technology to mask their lack of film talent.
In the 70's producers made "Porn Movies"; today producers just video tape people fucking, there is a big difference.

DaddyHalbucks 10-17-2007 11:01 AM

Debbie Does Dallas was so popular because the girl was very hot, the Cowboys were hot, Betamax was hot, and it had a great title. It had every element of success.

:thumbsup

Dunno, "Debbie Does Dallas" was just aight.

CurrentlySober 10-17-2007 11:13 AM

I think it was popular, because it was one of the first...

A bit like everyones heard of the exorcist... It was supposed to be the scariest film ever, with people fainting in the theater.

But you see it today, and it looks crap... But back then, it was the first so people got scared...

Well, I think it was becase DDD was one of the first porns to be wildly available on vid...

Not a great porn, but because it was one of the first, every ones heard of it

That's why modern porn is so much better.

dig420 10-17-2007 11:18 AM

are you kidding me? The Exorcist is still terrifying by ANY standard.

No, not kidding. Perhaps the premise is scary, but look at the effects...
Compared to todays cgi stuff, when her head turns round and stuff, it just looks like a bad puppet...
But back in the day, when you had NEVER even thought of the concept of a head turning round... It was cutting edge stuff...

Keep in mind, this movie and others like it was shot before the Meese Report. Today, most videos you see from this era and before are the censored versions.

I recently started watching some of the uncensored versions of these videos. Using the LA District Attorney?s guidelines for what they consider to be obscene, there would be quite a few people serving time for the content in these videos. As a matter of fact, some people have already served time for them.

The criteria for producing porn without being prosecuted for obscenity was much tighter in the 70's. If those same films were shot today by the same people and with todays technology and freedom of content the stuff you think is good would easily been seen for the slack shit that it is.

Most porn makers today don't even know how to shoot a decent close up.
When's the last time you saw a slow motion shot?
Sound track is a joke. Lack of super stars, there is no John Holmes or Seka.
A lot of the video is not truly in focus, and they're using video to begin with.
There's a reason why mainstream feature film actually uses film!
Video is cheap, but so is the quality of the product.
Cheap production is winning the financial game though.

You would be right to say, "So what, nobody gives a fuck".
I'm just putting this out there purely as an academic look at pornography.

While we need stuff like the Paris Hilton sex tape in order to have a single explosive product it might be possible for a super producer with the skills of the 70's to actually give us this type of explosive movie without having the celebrity involved and that would be something to make us more money on a continual basis. So maybe this is not all about the academics.

I mean, what was the last big porn movie made that everybody had to see?
Maybe the Houston 500 might qualify, but that was like 1999 or so.

I'm just saying that with all the complaining about conversion ratios maybe we should consider the quality of what we are trying to sell sometimes instead of blaming the traffic. Surfers can see amateur style vidoes any where on the net so why do we continue to try to make money off the same quality product? The only difference in totaly amateur vids and what some sponsors push is only a more expensive camera.

Electronics marketing hasn't changed a bit. New products are priced way to high in the beginning and drop price within a year or two.

I was a VHS guy myself. Sony price Betamax out of the market and VHS became the most widely used format... back when you only had 2 choices. :thumbsup

Notice the Cut $110 in the top right... price wars!!

The Patriots just DID Dallas this last weekend!

biglou 10-17-2007 04:15 PM

3 reasons...

Good title (aliterations sell)...
Rip-off of Cowboys cheerleaders...
and it was on the market right about the time that most Americans were buying VCRs and had good distribution and a damn good box cover.

All of you are wrong. Im not pioneer of porn but I worked for the producer doing the DVD authoring for Bob Burge. The reason the file skyrocketed is because of all the contriversy behind its creators and the disappearance of the main actress. There is a long story that involves money laundering, the mafia, and the disappearance. Do some research its an interesting story how it grossed more money than any other porn film in history when the talent made $150 - $200 each to shoot.

I was just going to say that I checked out the name of the main actress on wikipedia to find out more about her since everybody was saying how hot she was. Nobody has a clue where she is or anything about her real name or background. She just kinda disappeared in the early 80's.

Jay-Rock 10-17-2007 11:25 PM

Tvx

Bob Started a new company called TVX films that distributes old porn films. He moved here to Houston about 2 years ago from Las Vegas. He hired me to author his films but after like the 10th film we had a falling out. His masters were VHS since his old 3/4 inch transfers werent usable from the originals. I didnt work for him long he is very set in his ways when it comes to old school. The reason I left was an argument that his tape dropouts were a fault of my DV capture. The VHS masters were old with bad tracking problems. My captures never dropped a frame. Its hard to tell someone like that they are wrong. Some guys should just retire. All in all I did get to here a lot of stories about the golden age of porn. Bob knew everyone.
