My Secretary quit today!!!! She said I was unfair...
 

She said it was unfair to make her go to Conventions!!

Hmm.. I pay for everthing... ok..

She gets weekends off, paid holidays, vacation time
and gets paid for full time work and only works 6 hours
a day..

She knew the requirment when she started..

Actually, the only other part is that her husband doesn't
want to go, she knew it was required that she attend.

At first, it was we'll go... then it was, he can't get the time off.
Now it's, I am pregnant and I don't want to go.

I said, no problem.. you don't have to go if you don't want
to, but you have to go to the next one *summer 2003*.

She said, no I don't want to go then either.

So, I said, fine.. stay here and take those days of during the
show, but... your not going to get paid cuz' I am closing
the entire office up!

She quit now, the show is in JANUARY for god sakes..:1orglaugh

People that either don't do well at shows or don't like going will always leave if you make them go.

Back when my company used to make me go places I didn't want to go, they always thought I should kiss their boots, too. Yes, I'd only have to work for 6 or 8 hours, then I'd have the rest of the day to have fun in St. Louis (or whatever place) without my friends. So, I'd either sit in my hotel room and watch TV after eating some food that was much less healthy than what I'd have at home. Or else, I could hang out in a bar, get drunk with strangers (less an option for a gal), and then get rolled on my way back to the hotel.

What fun, right?!

First, she never went to a show.

Second, her husband, my friend, was all excited about
going, but since he needs medical help due to his paranoid
thoughts of flying anywhere at age 34, she chooses
to cover up for him etc etc.

Third, she knew the requirments a long time ago. This
only recently became an issue.

Some people just aren't cut out for conventions. Sometimes for their own personal reasons. Also some marriages just are not conducive to a spouse going to a convention.

Remember, a LOT of people are in this business because of the money and their spouses are only ok with it as long as it is only on the computer, not when it comes to going to shows where pornstars, drugs, strippers and tons of sex is the norm. I can understand that and give kudos to any employers who understand that also.

J.R. it does sound like you tried to work it out for her though. Offering to allow her to not attend was generous considering as you say that she knew going into the job she would be required to go. Seems irrational of her to quit when you worked it out so she didn't even have to go.

So, exactly what was her reason for quitting? You seemed kind enough to say that she didn't have to go to the conventions but she just wouldn't be paid for the days you were at the shows. So then, what was her reason for quitting? It seems she liked her job at the office (I would if I was getting 2 hours per day of paid time without having to be there), just not the shows.

So if she's not willing to go to the shows, why not just hire a model @ the show and tell your secretary to stay home those days.

I wish I had an answer for why she quit.

Her husband, my friend, was taught by me how
to make extra cash on the net. He made a few grand
over the last year with some small advertising.

I truely think it's because her husband is afraid to fly on a plane.
But, they both did about 6 months ago. We all flew to Vegas together. I bought a round of lap dances for all of us at
the Crazy Horse, I even paid for the back room too!

Yes, I think she made a snap decision without
thinking it through.

Sounds like a mistake to quit a nice and easy job like what she had. Just look at how many people here are willing to jump onto the job to replace her. Think of it this way, you won't have to pay a replacement the extra 2 hours/day you were giving for free.

I have had alot of close friends ask me about
what happend today. They all think this is crazy!

I agree...this is an odd situation.

I guess hormones are a big part of it, she felt that
I was taking money from her when I said that employees
that dont attend the show will not get paid.

In order to be fair to those who attend, I said that we are
closing our office during the show days. So, if you choose not
to go to the show, you get a few days off. Unpaid of course.

Its not fair to my other employees.

No, I don't think you were unfair at all. She knew that conventions were a requirement; you didn't tell her she had to go, you just said fine, take the time off unpaid. Seems fair.

Sounds to me like she was looking for a reason to quit, and she found this.
