Gibson's Steakhouse

If you are ever in Chicago, and want a great steak (or even better lobster), be sure to check out Gibson's.

Pretty amazing stuff.

And now...back to our regularly scheduled program.

Sosa 10-15-2007 09:50 PM

I've heard good things about Gibsons and definately want to try it out next time we are there.

We usually take a meal in at Harry Caray's since we are usually there for Cubs games and it goes together. They have pretty good steak as well.

Snake Doctor 10-15-2007 09:52 PM

How does it compare to places most of us have heard of like Ruth Chris or Smith and Wo's?

Well, Smith and Wollensky's is one of our favorite places, but Gibson's had a much larger selection of steaks, and I don't recall S&W having lobster, so have to give the nudge to Gibson's.

If you have a group, you might want to try their desserts, but I would suggest making sure there are at least 4 of you to share it because it was way too much for three people.

They certainly do (well at least in Vegas they do).

West Australian lobster, direct flown in.

Nothing like travelling 10000 miles to eat what you can eat back home.

I live in the bayou so I'm not really impressed with anyone's seafood. Everytime I try seafood when travelling I'm always disappointed.

I'm more interested in the steak.

The best filet I've ever had is at Copeland's. (They're New Orleans based but they have franchises in alot of other places)
I like theirs better than Ruth's or Smith's or any of the other places I've tried. :2 cents:

Same deal being Australian.

Our stuff is exported all over the World (refer above) and generally seafood from most other places sucks.

Well maybe except New Zealand, theirs is the shit.

:2 cents:

If you are ever in Seattle check out El Gaucho.

Been there also.

Not a S&W IMHO, but none too shabby anyway.

:2 cents:

I'm about as interested in food as I am in gasoline. Just never understood why people make such a big deal about it. You're hungry, you eat and go about your day. If I could take a little pill in the morning and not have to bother with it at all I would.

Bdiddy 10-16-2007 06:58 AM

Will keep that in mind.

I've never been too impressed with gourmet chain steak houses...small local quality who have their own private ranches is much better imo.

If you're ever in Seattle try Jaks Grill. Really good. :-)

Well, see, that is just another difference between us, because I am interested in gasoline as well.

They have 93 octane here in Indiana, and I just wish I had one of my bikes here so I could fill up with that a few times.

Well, I live at the beach, so I am no push over either, but this stuff was so sweet I could have by-passed the steak altogether.

Eating's a sensual experience. Each of the 1000+ taste buds on your tongue are directly tied in to the pleasure center of the brain.

If you're not enjoying what you eat, you're not living life to the fullest, imho.

MichelleB 10-16-2007 07:43 AM

This thread is making me hungry

Chicago has very good food. We always stay downtown when we visit, walk wherever downtown for a nice meal, and walk back to the hotel to burn a little bit of it off lol.

To me, not worth the time it takes to do it. I've always been the type that lives in my head more than my body anyhow, if that makes any sense to you. Not a very sensual person.

That's good for the steaks and sea food...but for the good ethnic food you have to go to the neighborhoods:thumbsup

LA has messed you up:(

baddog 10-16-2007 08:38 AM

Hank, I want to apologize. It wasn't until we were sitting at the table that I remembered that I should have invited you along.

I will be back soon though.

No Problem...We'll get together one of these times when you are in the area:winkwink:

Andy Servers4Less 10-16-2007 03:25 PM

Oh man, I went there about a month and a half ago. Awesome place. Steak was great, and how about the potatoes.... I gotta get back there soon. My friend is the producer for the Brandmeier Show out there. Any of you guys listen to him?

Dig seemed that way many many years ago when he was not living in LA anyways.

Some people just see food as fuel and would rather use their time doing other things or persuing other pleasures. The human mind allows for more pleasures than what is physically hardwired such as sex, food, companionship, love, or whatever.

I personally will spend hours making something, or drive way out of my way to try a new place out. That is me, food is a very important part of my life and is also a very strong hobby of mine.

I just would never presume that something is wrong with someone if they would rather pop a pill for fuel instead of enjoy their food. Just like I am not the type that would get upset or think oddly of someone who would dump katchup all over a piece of high quality meat. It is them, their choice, their preference, and their tastes.

FrameShifter 10-16-2007 04:46 PM

Never went to Gibson's but Ruth rules for steak.

I did not order a potato . . . goodgirl did but never ate it. She said the split pea soup was damn good, but I would have to have a gun put to my head to try that.
