Is it me or does GFY really suck without Search?
 

Shit flies off the front page pretty quick and if you can't use search it really sucks.

I wonder if they are going to fix it or if this is their solution to making the site actually load in less than 20 seconds?

yes it sucks trying to find gallery submitters without the search tool for sure. If you know any good ones let me know.

well one of the great features of gfy used to be ...that you can find all kinds of topics from the past with a "short" load...so yes!

exactly, a forum is a stupid place in the first place to use a resource site. I post stuff and it is gone in a couple days, but at least you could always use the search to find a few diamonds in the ruff. Now, its totally useless imo. If someone does post something good you are likely to miss it.

Also you going to see a lot more threads started with people askign the same questions since they can't use the search function to find similar threads from a couple days before.

They should get a few more servers and a good load balancer and then optimize all MySQL queries, re-index the db, add more ram and tweak the php.ini to get decent performance... The feature I miss the most is the New Post and the search of course.

It really sucks without the search. Now I can't find my old post.

yeah it sucks. but on the other hand gfy is pretty damn fast now...

Go to google and you can somewhat search gfy that way but just doing:

(search term) site:www.gofuckyourself.com

example: will76 site:www.gofuckyourself.com

Not a perfect solution, but I use it on a few big forums where the search always times out.

haha you know i was just doing that. How sad is that. This site makes well over 1 million dollars a year and they can't even make it managable to post here. Shit i would rather go back to the 30 second page loads with the search feature then have no search.

i agree with ya there, luckly i don't have problems finding my old posts as i set my account to subscribe to every thread make, or reply in so all i do is goto my user cpanel and get any recently updated threads, but still the search is important

is it really that much faster? For me it isn't....maybe a little. But search would be necessary!!!

If nothing else, I have noticed a few less stupid threads in the last few days as people actually try to manage page 1. Nice :)

Typically, I've posted as I've found a minute here or there throughout the day - never really paying all that much attention to where those threads are - and relied on the search feature later that evening to check back on any threads I might have posted in.

I'm sure there are a dozen+ threads by now that I've suddenly dropped convo in... I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Part of the cohesion of GFY is falling apart, imho. Bandwidth isn't going to be an issue if there aren't as many users around.

Bandwidth isn't the issue to start with. The issue involves a very large database getting whacked endlessly by people and their bots looking for their names to make sure people aren't saying bad things about them or their programs.

Apparently the average GFY user is making one hell of a bunch of searches every day, which requires more and more computing horsepower to take care of. At some point, unless the DBs are clones or otherwise multiplexed, you reach the point of quickly diminishing returns.

GFY is almost useless without being able to search a topic or old thread. PLEASE BRING IT BACK ASAP!!

thi ssite needs the search function to be a referral site worth using .. other then that it's just a time waster

As for the very large DB. Why not archive those old posts?

Personally I am glad to give up the search for the much improved load tmes. No reason to be spamming old threads anyway.

spamming old threads? ever thought that people might wanna read the replies in threads they've posted in?

Using search to find info is way better than every man and his dog asking the very questions they could have found the answers to by searching.

1)Delete posts earlier than a certain date (where the info is likely outdated)
2)Remove the "search by user name" and keep the search by word.
3)Delete as many useless whoring threads as possible.
