mac help
just bought a mac and I installed fire fox
the icon it created on my desktop (the firefox logo over a cdrom looking thing) i tried to drag it to my trash can says it cant because it is in use so i force quit the program and it let me delete it then but my firefox logo in my dock would not open?? am i missing something or does every program i install have to have the icon on my desktop??? |
It may be that when you downloaded firefox you saved it to the desk top and when you deleted the desktop icon you unintentionally deleted the application as well. Download it to Applications. Once you have downloaded right click on it and make an alias which you can drag to the desktop or the dock.

ahh okay so any software that i install when i want to uninstall i "eject" it??
i am thinking this is something like mounting a drive in windows lol dont want to screw this thing up but it didnt give me an option where i wanted to save it so ill play w/ that now |
FF made a page just for you on there web download :)
It now list the instructions and although it does DL to the desktop it tells you to drag it into the applications folder. http://en.www.mozilla.com/en/product...osx&lang=en-US |
guess if i read what i was doin i would of seen that on the download page ;)
thnx bro workin great for me now :-D |
This explains how to uninstall programs http://guides.macrumors.com/Uninstal...ns_in_Mac_OS_X

For uninstalling there's a great little app called AppZapper.

chris, from the sounds of it you may have run the application directly from the dmg file u downloaded rather than installing it to the applications folder.
hence why its saying it is in use when u tried to delete it. u should open up the dmg install file (the firefox logo over a cdrom looking thing) and drag the icon into your applications folder and it will be installed there and you can delete the file from your desktop |
You are going to love you mac

when you download firefox it asks to be put in the app folder - but - if you dont it's sitting on the desktop - so - like a drive - you have to eject it - but - you didn't download it so you'll have to do this all over again

The only help I think you need Chris is to buy a proper PC (x64 bit)
Later, ^^ . |
