How long do wire transfers take in between us banks nowadays?

Just wondering...it's been about 4 years since i did a wire transfer between US banks and it took 3 business days to arrive. Is it still a painfully slow process?

HighRoller 10-14-2007 07:42 PM

I have it happen sometimes same day if it's done early enough in the day
most I do are in the same state.
I suppose if it's out of state it can take a day.

Hansm 10-14-2007 07:42 PM

OMG, 3 Days?

Lucky i lived in the netherlands. only 1 day. and if we use the option for direct, then it takes 10 minutes.

From US to Netherlands takes only 2 days.

After Shock Media 10-14-2007 07:43 PM

Same as always up to 3 or so business days to post and clear.*
Typically does not matter if it is across the street or from California to England.
Although same bank seems to speed up the process a little bit.

*Time can be adjusted by when they sent it. If it was sent before 3pm it will travel faster instead if after it can wait until midnight or next day all together.

I've had some that have taken a day (inside the US) I've also have had some that have taken a week (from Europe) normally between 2-3 days

Sly 10-14-2007 07:44 PM

I received one last week, same day. I was surprised, I always thought it took longer.

Pornwolf 10-14-2007 07:53 PM

It should take minutes. What the fuck!? Is this 1985 still?

There's no reason I should be able to paypal someone faster than I can wire them.

It can happen instantaneously but if the bank can slow it up a bit and make a little more money of your money they will.

ztik 10-14-2007 07:57 PM

3 days? 1 day? WTF

A wire takes no more then 1 minute to be completed and received

If it takes 3 days then they are doing it by hand, and are being lazy as fuck or are farmers/retards.

Ah yeah

This is true too. I would switch banks if they played with my money like that.

Name one major bank that does instant out of state wires and I'll switch today.

Same bank to same bank and it becomes common.
I ussually get a state to state from 12 hours to next day, like I said if they send before 3pm I may get it that same day.

fuzebox 10-14-2007 08:14 PM

I've received wires instantly from the USA to Canada before, and get upset if a wire within the USA isn't same day. Am I just lucky?

Pornwolf 10-14-2007 08:23 PM

Of course same bank to same is fast.

fuzebox, you are just lucky. I've never seen that happen.

The one I got last week was out of state. I have no idea how it all works, but I sure wish they were all that fast. Another monthly wire that I get takes about three days.

GreyWolf 10-15-2007 12:10 AM

Still seems to average around three days - assuming all the details are correct. Don't have a lot of faith in wire delivery times and just leave em to do whatever and don't usually have problems.

The worst example took 14 weeks - the damned wired "disappeared" at the intermediary bank in NY and nobody had a clue or *any* tracking docs - unbelievable. But the funds ended up back at the initiating bank - eventually.

A wire from a US Bank to a US Bank takes 3 seconds if done before 4:30 PM Eastern Time.

An ACH from a US Bank to a US Bank has to go through the federal reserve
which batches ACH transaction about 4 AM Eastern Time so they take 24 hours normally.

Any added time you see is Bank delays sending or posting the money !

Exactly, most of my wires are done within a few hours at most, if it takes more than a business day there's something wrong.

Thanks for the replies :thumbsup

Wire is usually 24 hrs, but an ACH transfer usually takes 3 days.
