One man has died in each of the last three years in this city in western Japan.

So translated 3 homeless people or near homeless people died in three years in that area of Japan? This is news how? I hope the NY times does not look out their own windows.

some could argue that its all the idiots that pretend to care just so they can feel good about themselves as they tell themselves they care that are cruel. anyone that really cared would send someone a blanket and a sandwich. but people don't. even those people who "care" don't

the point is it's a first world country and people are *starving* to death. it's a huge cultural difference. we have food banks and shit here so to me this is ludicrous

dude lost 1/3 his body weight *starving* to death. homeless die like that in north america ? these people weren't even homeless.

And then some of us do what we can, and - at the same time - know an asshole when we see one.

It has way more to do with people having too much pride to ask for help than anything else. It is shameful for them to be on the public handout,and when that stops, the shame is very intense indeed.

It is very sad, but you are looking at a culture entirely based on face (cho) and a loss of face is worse than death itself to many.

Yes it does. Lets clear something up I said homeless or near homeless I do believe. Now back to the issue.

A very naughty and not so secret secret is that such things happen in assisted living/senior citizen/old age homes all the time. Even at many where people pay the place quite a bit each and every month, or the old person had it preset up via a trust or so forth. Many die of starvation, dehydration, and serious infections. The lucky ones at some of these places get inspected when they are just covered in decubitus ulcers (link) and if super lucky maggots (yes that is lucky cause maggots only eat dead flesh and do clean wounds super well).

the NY Times has become such a piece of shit it is not even fit to line the bird cage.
