Paysite Owners, NEW MPEG Access Denied Problem!
Hi Guys. Haven't posted here in a while. Hope everyone is doing well. I'm writing because I've come across something that could potentially affect many of you, especially the Paysite owners out there.
Over the past week our customer support emails for help with Mpeg Video clips have gone thru the roof. Our members were emailing us with problems we had never heard of before. Tonight I went in and downloaded the newest version of Windows Media Player (Version 9). -I tried to play an mpeg from my members area. -Result? Windows Media Player Reported Access Denied. I looked into that and it seems Windows Media Player is now looking for some sort of digital certificate before playing an mpeg. -Next I tried saving the mpeg to my disk and then playing it off the hard drive. -Result? Windows Media Player said the file was not recognized and not a valid file. -Then I put the mpeg on a link outside the members area. -Result? it worked fine. So it seems that the new Windows Media Player will only play mpegs that are linked outside a secure area and won't play them without this "digital license/certificate". I tried running mpegs off Scoreland, Milf Hunter, Bangbus. Same result. Have any of you heard of this? Is there a way around it? And if not this seems like a major problem for a number of paysites. I'm thinking the only option is recoding all the video clips to another format. Not exactly a cost/time effective option. Any feedback at all would be appreciated. Thanks :-))) Shap |
Hmmm.. if that's true (and i mean: MS's new policy instead of a bug) that's means shit hitting the fan..
|
just tell them you use another player
|
Iīve heard the most weird shit going on with the new
Media Player 9... i donīt even dare to update. And about using "another player" maybe someone can point out a good MPEG player.. a couple of years ago there was MPEGView that worked like wonders... maybe is still around? |
SHAP IS IN DA HOUSE -- RESPECT YOUR ELDERS...
WORD |
Hi Gecko. I'm not quite sure the solution is that simple. First off a large number of users use the force fed Microsoft Software. Also, I tried the new version of divx, that also is no longer playing Mpegs without a "Digital License".
Shap |
was up shap,, long time no speak,
i agree this is a serious issue, it must be a bug cuz i can't see why M$ would not allow MPEG videos,, seems more of a step backwards |
Oh Shit. Milo and The Fly! Whassup Guys? :thumbsup

Fly You're Crazy!
Whassup Playa! I agree with you. However I don't think it is a bug. If I'm not mistaken an Mp3 is an Mpeg right? If so then it makes perfect sense. Microsoft and these other companies may be trying to help control the mp3 file swapping and as a result they have just hit us webmasters right in da nuts. Shap |

Hi DrunkDollars. Our Wmv videos work fine. The mpegs don't. I'm going to talk with the guy that encoded them for us tomorrow. I'm guess the only solution right now is to get members to download Windows Media Player 7.1
Shap |

DOES THAT SOUND LIKE A GOOD IDEA???????????? PLEASE RESPOND |
Shap..
Can you tell the location that the file is looking to get the license from? |
Drunkdollars, not that I know of.
|
I just checked the mpg plug in we have and it is working fine for me.

I'm assuming that 9.0 installs some new codecs, certificates, or something, that aren't erased when someone reinstalls 7.1 over it. If you try install over 9.0 with 7.1 and it works fine, let us know. |
MikeEp. You are correct. Returning to Windows Media 7.1 is not as easy as I thought it would be. I'll keep you posted. I may have to call it a night and start fresh in the Morning.

Did you already try it and it didn't work? Maybe some "windows gurus" out there can post on how to fully drop 9.0 from the comp to allow a fresh and clean install of 7.1. Maybe it's just as simple as deleting certain files/certificates that 9.0 installs...hmmm, wish i knew... Good post Shap, I hope you keep us updated and report your findings. |
Bout time shap came around posting here some more!
I hope this becomes a regualr thing! As for Windows Media 9 that isnt good to hear, casue you know its the default palyer out there now. I hope this is a bug they fix. WMP 9 is in beta still right? Which means they probably are unaware of this bug? |
it's still a beta so this should be fixed once M$ hears about it.
still, MS sucks. |
Isn't WMP 9 still in it's beta version tho? If enough people bitch about it I'm sure it'll be fixed. Prob'ly a bug like most are saying.

IF WE WERE STILL USING DOS THIS WOULDN'T HAVE HAPPENED IN THE FIRST PLACE |
Yes its in beta but it might not be a bug it might be something to do with the encoding of the mpegs the first step I think is to see where it is trying to grant the licence from.

It is all part of the new microsoft digital licencing.
I am just curious if the default license for an older encoded mpeg to play in media 9 checks on a MS server. This would suck. |
I had posted earlier on this topic ... but I will repeat it here ...
THE ONLY WAY TO COMPLETELY GET RID OF MEDIAPLAYER 9, IS TO DO A SYSTEM RESTORE TO THE DAY BEFORE (OR ANY TIME BEFORE YOU INSTALLED WMP9) ... And that is right from Microshit I am totally PISSED RIGHT THE FUKK OFF with Microshit over this one, to the point I just might buy a fukkin MAC !!! :( I have made so many changes to my machine since installing WMP9 that a system restore is not a viable option ... but I now having processes shut down at a rate of at least 1 every hour ever since installing it ... so it might be an option REAL SOON ...I am starting to back every thing up !!! WTG Microshit !!! This fukking MediaPlayer makes Windows ME seem AWESOME !!! Microsoft thinks they have us by the short and curlies ... I think it is time the American buying public shows them elsewise !!! :feels-hot :feels-hot :feels-hot :feels-hot |
anyway, don't worry about this guys. i'll post a solution tomorrow.

DivX Player
WinAmp RealOne If you are going to use a player, I'd choose one of those, they are not in order of any preference. |
check here for shit:

I went through this with M$ last week. Hungry is right, you have to restore your computer or just format C like I did to return to the way it was. Microsoft is hard lining the file traders. They are also making it harder to get the DRM SDK's to add signatures to your files.
I think this might be the one thing that saves Realplayer. |
|
A couple of us have posted already about this fiasco with WMP9.
There appears to be big problems with password protected movies. Check the microsoft beta newsgroup (I forget what it's called but you can find it on the Microsoft support site) and you will see that lots of people are having these problems. This is still a beta, hopefully they will fix it. I had to restore my machine to get rid of that piece of shit. |

ok that's the funniest thing i've heard all week |
If you're installing BETA software (ESPECIALLY FROM MICROSOFT) despite all the warnings, and it ends up biting you in the ass, you shouldn't be bitching about it... you did it to yourself.
|
I must have missed the other posts regarding this. Luckily I installed the WMP9 tonight and was able to remove it with the system restore. Wasn't much of a headache since I removed it right away. However anyone who has had it installed for a while is looking at a big mess.
I'm off to bed now. I've sent out a few emails trying to find a solution to this. I'll post any info I find out in the morning :thumbsup Shap |
PETE !!!!!!!!!!
I'm beginnin to think you don't love me anymore !!! :( Mike says you are looking for a roomate for Nina's ???? Answer your damn ICQ dood !!! |
The Beta version of the Media Player does not have support for HTTP Basic
authentication. Please see this article for details: http://support.microsoft.com/default...;EN-US;Q329149 |
Hey Shap.
Just checked our latest video galleries and they all worked fine. Why not embed the mpgs as we are doing? That seems to override the problem. About nastys or our other stuff, I had to do a right click 'save as target'. Straight download wouldn't work. We'll see tomorrow... roberto/ score-cash |
Microsoft needs to get their shit together, this is very bad :(
