Another Invention: Patent app accepted. (Hot or Not?)
Ok, I figured I'd post it since I got such great feedback from my last one. IMO, It's not as good as my other invention,
fucking-around-and-business-discussion/773614-honest-opinion-invention-hot.html but I still think it's a good idea. The application was accepted by the USPTO and a patent search shows nothing exactly like it (more complex and permanent carriers exist but not like this). It's a cheap, disposable, simple cardboard pizza box holder so you can hold it flat easily without dropping it. Test models show that the design keeps it secured using gravity and the geometry of the box to keep it from sagging due to the stress flowing along the box lines...it works great actually, even with extra weight added. Of course marketing is a whole other ballpark from my child safety device, I have to get a manufacturer to pick it up...you cannot market this B2C...But what do you think? http://xcohosting.com/pizza_holder.jpg Thoughts? |
why would someone need this? (that will be the first question they ask you)

I don't really see a point. Pizza delivery guys have insulated bags to keep the pizza warm. Also I usually order more than one pizza at a time so the cut outs are going to have to come in variable sizes.
|
Ray, imagine you wind up getting a penny for every pizza sold? We will never hear from you again lol
|
Hot! Would do great for take outs, not so much for deliveries since they usually put the pizza boxes in those heat pouches. Great idea!

See, I always actually make my inventions and use them. I don't try to patent a concept and hold people hostage for doing business...like some patent holders... |
Its totally not retarded at all.
Really. |
LOL, congrats, that's one good invention :thumbsup

and this is the reason the USPTO needs to be revised, people can submit stupid shit to it as long as they pay the fee..

What if you have more than one pizza? Where do you carry all the sides (wings, sodas, mozzarella sticks, etc)? People normally don't get just the one pizza and no sides when they order.
|
Pizza biz is cut throat and with cheese being the costliest ingrediant, and one you only get discounts on if you can order massive volume it makes competition fierce and penny counting key.
Pizza boxes, let alone storage are a large cost item. Hell many will not even use the newer boxes that prevent a soggy crust. Now do you think if they do not care about the crust (most important part of a pizza) they would care if the box stays straight? As for delivery, nearly everyone uses hotboxes and bags now adays. Almost forgot many places also will not even upgrade to the boxes that hold condiments or sides like wings. |
Wow. That's very clever.
|
Hmmm ... interesting!
|
Like it. They got shit to hold your drinks, having this to hold the pizza makes a lot of sense. Hell, hold the phone -- why don't you design it with holes in the top carrier portion so you can slip two drinks on each side of the handle as well? Do I get a percentage now? :-)

I also took into consideration making them stackable to hold more than one pie, etc. |
I like it, but I liked the step one for kids better, I have about 8 good inventions I'm suppose to patent soon.

Cool invention RAY, but its not that hard to carry a pizza box to the car.
Whaddya think of my neighbors invention? www.solopipes.com |
I admire your creativity.
1. It might work better in plastic. Why not re-use it? Throw away cardboard is a waste of resources, and apartment dwellers probably have little use for the thing. Pizza companies --which deliver many pizzas per night --are the likely end users, and they need something durable. 2. There is also the possibility to sell ad space on them. 3. You might want to create a version/ embodiment to handle multiple boxes and even sodas. Again, I see your customer as the pizza delivery man. Think of his difficult job walking up stairs, and turning door knobs with one hand and carrying the food in the other. As I wrote in your other thread, I have alot of experience with new product development. I was even the President of the local inventors club for a few years. Email me if you want an experienced person to help you with the business end of this. The failure rate for inventions is sky high and you need all the advantages you can get. Yet another patened pizza related invention

a hole through the pizza box, it can be put to better use than this handle :1orglaugh |
Ouch

hi ray,
it's good to see you "thinking outside of the box" and we would be happy to hook you up with a complimentary patent tracking account at http://IPalert.com. Our system will notify of all status updates on your patent applications by email and via your login. You will know your situation 2 weeks earlier than waiting for the notices from the uspto and without the tediousness of checking the uspto website every weekday. on a side note, we are tracking 10's of 1000's of patent applications (our own, those of others- both by category and keyword)- and the uspto is definitely clamping down hard. for every one patent application we see get approved, there are waaaaaaaay more getting rejected. there is no way to predict how the process will go & office actions require swift attention, so i highly recommend you take us up on the IPalert account. the key on this invention will be if the examiners think the design is non-obvious. they may or may not or start asking questions. also patent #7,066,362 is a slotted thing for levelling a pizza box on a car seat but it has some claims for what looks like a handle and slots for napkins and drinks. hopefully your invention is a non-obvious one or a non-obvious improvement to the prior art. here's another patent on what looks at first glance like a universal carrying device with a focus on pizzas- 7,055,876. |
BTW ray I can hit you with the be all end all Pizza magazine, also happens to be a free subscription.
Never know, I studied that industry hard however the guy who invented the pizza slice box is doing pretty well. The true nut to crack with pizza though is the box itself. It is the leading cause of fucked up pies. Steam and crispy crust do not mix, even with small channels or honeycombs at the bottom. |

What if you get three pizzas? How will that work? By the way .. I give you credit for at least trying to come up with stuff. Most of us just sit around and say "Why didn't i think of that?" :) Good luck with this man. |
PS ray I have an invention so to speak.
Doubt I would ever persue it, unless I sort of worked with someone who did it before. If that worked I have numerous medical aid type ones. |

If only you could invent something that would make the pizza guy remember the crushed red pepper packets and/or the drinks.
