Thats what I did. Its my blog anyway, I started it to tell people what I think, not to provide others with a platform to offer up their solutions. If people want to say something, they can start their own blog.

I don't use any plugins and I don't have any problems with spam since I:

1: Did edit the comment-HTML and deleted the Website-field. Why should surfers be able to post a URL to their crappy website? Only spammers use it.

2: Options/Discussion
Added this to the Comment Blacklist:

(there was some kind of bug. Don't add .net.... It will blacklist the comment even if there's no ".net" in it. Maybe they've fixed it now..)

Also go into askimet plug in configuration and click on: "Automatically discard spam comments on posts older than a month."
Spam on one of my blogs dropped from an average of 250 a day to about 2
