Which is more ethical...

Two pre-checked cross sells on a join page or a site that makes girls look like they are 12 or 13 years old?

Which do you think causes more "damage" to our industry?

Does either one really change the perception people have of our industry as a whole?

When people find out I'm in the porn business, the first question I always get asked is "man, do you run those sites with the 14 year old girls on them?" it's never "Do you guys have those boxes that subscribe you to multiple porn sites?"

The prechecked cross sales are worse. At least with sites that make girls look younger, the customers are actually looking to sign up to that site. Pre checked cross sales are making people pay more attention then webmasters know they will and basically forcing 2 more sites on them. That shit is shady.

They're both EQUALLY disgusting.

Are those customers actually looking for 20 year olds made to look 13 or looking for 13 year olds?

WOW.. so you're saying that catering to pedophiles is ok since the demand exists?

Like I said in the other thread, 75%-80% of people uncheck pre-checked cross sells, it's hardly a 'shady' practice. There is data from millions of xsell transactions to back this up.

i'd say both

and i had people telling me that they never use their credit card again cause they were looking for free porn and got charged hundred bucks instead. no kidding. as a service guy i also had to clean a lot of computers that were full of trojans, viruses etc. from visiting porn sites

and no one can tell me things like "people have to read the fine print" or "people should look where they click". all those things are made to intentionally fuck the surfers and will destroy the trust of people in the long run. and therefore it's also hurting my business and i decided not to like it

Does it really matter? As long as the girls are 18+.

I go see a horror movie like Halloween, am I really looking to see murder?

Who said anything about pedophiles? I'm just saying that some people actively look for models that look young. Nothing wrong with it as long as they are 18. What I'm saying is that everyone here knows that 90% of the people signing up won't see the prechecked boxes and continue with the sale. If they want it, they'll buy it, shouldn't have to force it on them.

I think trojans and viruses are a different class, although I've gotten many more warnings from lyrics sites than I ever did porn...yikes...

your statistic is wrong: 75-80% of people UNCHECK PRECHECKED XSELLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would say that out of 100 signups, 98 people fully understand what they are signing up for, 75-80 of then UNCHECK the xsells, 18 - 23 of them see the xsells and leave then checked because they like the 'offer' and 2 of them are too lazy to read.

Also, remember that on 100% of transactions people have to check a Terms and condition box. This check box is directly below the xsell offer, so their eyes MUST pass over the pre-checked boxes.

Also, nearly all join pages have radio buttons or drop-downs that are defaulted to full-monthly price points and not to trials, yet from my experience, greater than 85% of people select the 'trial' join.

So, for your theory to hold up, these 'people' are smart enough to select the trial option, smart enough to check the terms and condition box, yet THEIR BRAIN FALLS OUT OF THEIR HEAD as soon as they see a pre-checked xsell box.

pllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez. There is no data or other evidence to support you number or your theory.
