What's Your City Got?

In Philadelphia, it's cheese steak, in Cincinnati, it's chili . . . not like Texas chili . . . it's more of a meat sauce, and we get it at "chili parlors".

Here is a "3Way" - noodles, chili, and mild cheddar. Add onions, it's a 4Way. Add red beans, it's a 5Way.
<img src="http://www.xxxwebcam.net/images/sky3way.gif">

And you compliment it with a "cheese coney" - Vienna sausage, chili, dab of mustard, a spoon of onions and a mound of cheese.
mmmmmmm good!

oh man does that look good. i am a connoisseur of crap food.
That looks like Manwich. I LOVES MY MANWICH! sounds gay tho.

Coney fries. I don't know what happened to A & W drive-in's. That was the best, in college there was one left in town. I don't see any of them left anywhere. You do see them in mall food courts but it's not the same as the drive-in's.

Who likes beef jerky? It's my favorite food, that and fresh fruit. Weird, one is healthy and the other is probably packed with carcinogens.

Yeah, that's our big playa in the chili game. They have a few franchises here and there. They were my brand for years, but lately I'm leaning towards GoldStar . . . a little spicyer, although some of the little mom & pop operations are where the real connoiseurs go.

Beastiepoo 09-16-2002 03:42 PM

We're technically more a town than a city, and we aren't famous for any food that I can think of...but we've got a building shaped like a boat.

When I was a kid in Philly I would have said - Cheesesteaks, soft pretzels and Tastykakes. You don't know what a Tastykake is? Poor you.

In London..well you can get any type of food so traditional fare isn't that easy to find but pie and mash is as traditional as it gets. That is meat pies with mash potato and this weird parsley sauce (ie green). Tastes better than it sounds but not my first choice.

That's true, but our chili is unique. . . it's got cinnamon and chocolate in it. And, we were smart enough to incorporate the whole noodle technology thing.

mika 09-16-2002 05:13 PM

Not the city. But the surroundings

I'll grant you that.

I wondered (until this evening) where the coney-spaghetti came from.

Thank you for the education.

ohmygod . . . I just looked that up:

"Scrapple should never be confused with Spam. A product of the Hormel Foods Corporation, Spam is spiced ham in a can - ham being the upper portion of a pig's hind leg. Scrapple, on the other hand, is an amalgamation of tendons, cartilage, feet, skin, ears, nose, gums and more. In short, it's all the garbage that should be thrown away. Some people eat it. Really."

Fro 09-16-2002 05:25 PM

The horror.

AllisonWonderland 09-16-2002 05:40 PM

We have:
1.) the bones of Agnes Moorehead, Erma Bombeck, and the Wright Brothers
2.) Rob Lowe's dad (attorney Charles Lowe)
3.) the pop-top can was invented in one of our suburbs
4.) the cash register was invented here
5.) Allison Janney
6.) Dorian Harewood
7.) Martin Sheen
8.) Rob Lowe
9.) Chad Lowe
10) Jonathon Winters (his family founded Winters Bank)
11.) Gary Sandy
12.) Gordon Jump
13.) Paul Laurence Dunbar
14.) Edwin C. Moses
and we think Skyline chili sucks.

Fried scrapple, yummy! Guess you'd have to be a die hard Philadelphian to understand the attraction. lol

Sjayne 09-16-2002 05:48 PM

OMG Scrapple ...damn I haven't had that in about six years. You just can not get it out of our area. It is wonderful stuff! Tastes good with a little of left over maple syrup.

Oh now I want some!

Sjayne 09-16-2002 05:53 PM

Oh, and I thought i read somewhere that Philly cream cheese isn't from Philly. Or was that that it isn't made there anymore. One of them.

Ah, scraple, pretzels and tastykakes...as Philadelphian as the phanatic.

Hooterdog 09-16-2002 07:41 PM

no . . . I mean I'm shocked that Spam is actually meat!

Finally, someone that understands the scrapple attraction!! You're right, it is great with syrup too. Damn, it's almost midnight and now I'm thinking about cooking up some scrapple. lol

If you really miss it that bad, ICQ or email me and I'll see about sending some over to you. Seriously. :)
