BitTorrent is used for many legitimate purposes.. any good file transferring protocol naturally gets abused by the pirates.. hell, FTP used to be the favorite back in the day.

What legitimate purposes do you use it for? Not accusing.. just curious.

I haven't found a legit purpose for torrents as of yet.

Tony can't seem to grasp that one. I've tried to explain it here as have a few others. It's like talking to a brick wall.

There sure are legitimate purposes but who actually is using it to transmit material that they own the rights to?

Millions of people who don't own rights to anything except their internal organs are using torrents...so who is the "legit" user?

Sansa 10-09-2007 02:07 PM

ktorrent, comes native with KDE

Well one day when things you produce are given away you will understand. Do you produce anything or is the only thing you do is attack me to make your ego feel better? I highly doubt everyone in this thread is using it for a higher purpose.

Well if your into computer games, World of Warcraft delivers all its updates, and content via bittorrent.

It has become pretty much exclusively the preferred method of delivery for every linux distribution out there. Any one and everyone that needs to distribute large files and doesn't have the resources to deliver it reliably tends to use it these days..

People tend to get the technology mixed w/ the pirates... as if no one would be trading files en masse bittorrent wasn't around. If bittorrent went away tomorrow, illegal file-sharing wouldn't skip a beat. It'd just move along to something else, like it always does and has in the past.

I bet theres still more adult content being swapped on the newsgroups these days than on the torrent sites. Its always been the biggest and easiest source of free porn I know, but no one ever brings it up.

Just wait until these guys catch wind of IRC f-servers with terabytes of pirated stuff to download.
All you gotta do is throw yourself into a queue and you've got anything you could ever desire to download.

No waiting for seeders, no fake files.... it's a mecca. Way bigger than torrents and even bigger than newsgroups.
