New XO laptop for $200!

In November, you?ll be able to buy a new laptop that?s spillproof, rainproof, dustproof and drop-proof. It?s fanless, it?s silent and it weighs 3.2 pounds. One battery charge will power six hours of heavy activity, or 24 hours of reading. The laptop has a built-in video camera, microphone, memory-card slot, graphics tablet, game-pad controllers and a screen that rotates into a tablet configuration.

And this laptop will cost $200.

I like how the battery is only 10 bucks, and a solar charger for it is only 12. Pretty impressive.

People always see the price tag and miss this:

There’s no CD/DVD drive at all, no hard drive and only a 7.5-inch screen. The Linux operating system doesn’t run Microsoft Office, Photoshop or any other standard Mac or Windows programs. The membrane-sealed, spillproof keyboard is too small for touch-typing by an adult..

old news and you do realize this was intended for third world countries dont you? probably not, but in case you didnt, thats what its for and for 2 weeks in november they'll be doing a buy one give one promo, where for $400 you buy one to be sent to a third world country and get one for yourself, one is tax deductible.

the bloggers and the ignorant have already begun to spit on the XO laptop. ?Dude, for $400, I can buy a real Windows laptop,? they say.

Clearly, the XO?s mission has sailed over these people?s heads like a 747.

It's for poor kids in 3rd world countries .. your buying 2 for $400 and one goes to a poor child. the other one you keep and play with or give to a Child.

I would by one for my 3 year old. it would be a learning tool like any other educational toy plus we could talk about helping other children in other countries ..

Yeah... saw that a couple months ago.

Good to know there'll be something like that around for when I have kids entering elementary school.

In the meantime, $600 buys you a decent low-end HP with 2 gigs of RAM and a 120 GB HD with a 15.4" screen and all the standard trimmings.

Hey, I only ask that GFY pay attention to a single bold, italic paragraph. You need to break things up into small little portions to be slowly digested.

After they see the 'Oh, it's small and I can't put my porn and illegal photoshop on it', you'll end up with an 'Oh, fuck that!' response about 95% of the time.

The others are blogging about their affection for poo.

Yep, I saw a show about these on Dateline a year or so ago.

Hopefully they can't get internet access with these. Just imagine the scamming.
