95,000 Hits in 3 min!!! WOW!!
I was watching the Oakland (Raiders) @ Pittsburgh( Steelers) and their was a controversial call about a forward pass. I'm not going to take the time to explain the controversial play..... So to make the long story short. The Raiders coach challenge the play.... so the referees had to review the play on instant replay at the same time the commentators told the viewer to go online to vote if the play should stand or be decline. and it showed the stats live on TV.... in about 1 min there was over 14,000 votes!! the stats updated about every 5 seconds..... the hits was going up like crazy!!! after about 3 min of reviewing the play the stats showed that over 95,000 votes was made!!! I couldn't believe what I was seeing!!! Do the Math and its over 500 hits per second and about 45,000,000 hits a day!!!! I didn't think any site/server could handle that kind of traffic!!! WOW!!! What would you do with that kind of traffic? :)

I made another post by mistake so I posted a reply in place of it.....or I could have hacked into the GFY server ...Heehee :winkwink: |
Doesn't the text in the sig have to be all the default color?

That's crazy traffic... I don't think a geocities site would have handled it. :1orglaugh They must have a paid dedicated.

I remember hearing the Kasparov vs Deep Blue events were the most internet-spectator events ever. Let me look...
after a quick search: "Kasparov vs. Deep Blue: The Rematch was one of the most popular live events ever staged on the Internet. The web site received more than 74 million hits representing more than 4 million user visits from 106 countries during the 9-day event." That's 8.2 million / day. Not bad, but that's raw visits. But, that's not cache, since the website is changing every move of the board, so it's the same as uniques as far as the server load is concerned... |
Yes, sig text *does* have to be the default color. We even got a nice stern warning about it a couple of weeks ago...
|
And most of those hits had to come from Pittsburgh because Raider fans are not capable of operating a computer, they just steal em.

can you tell what the rules are? I can't find them. |
I remember listing to a guy explain the workings behind google.com.... 10,000 searchs per second -- they had 3000 servers. I'm guessing it's a lot more now.. lol

I heard the NFL site was hosted on Terra.es! That's why the servers could handle that traffic becasuse they are so used to upgrading servers to handle porn. That's just a rumor so ya didn't hear it from me.
|
ever think it might be FAKED? maybe they added a couple of zeros.
|
WTF they wouldn't fake it, its TV@!
|
I can't see them faking the hits either.
Yeah it must be one Kick ass super server to handle that kind of processing!! |
They usually don't fake TV shit. I've seen polls that only have a 1,000 votes on a TV show that gets millions of visitors.

... and I would redirect it all to a partnership program, any other would go bankrupt with such traffic... ironically. |
