Well, this thread went from a "Fight the good fight for what I think is right even if I'm a bit off base" to "Fight with somebody who disagrees." quite quickly.

Now we just need to add global politics to meld with the personal ones.

I have been spending a ton of time lately on various forums that provide links to illegally download content for a project I'm working on, and I will say beyond a shadow of a doubt that one is directly related to the other. I'm not saying that because I'm speculating, I'm saying that because that is what I have been told by countless members of these forums.

You are going to get a percentage of people that will never download content from torrents or file sharing sites because they are against theft. Unfortunately, that is a very small percentage.

You are also going to get a percentage that is computer illiterate and will join adult sites strictly because they are overwhelmed by trying to figure out how to get content for free, no matter how easy it may be. This was a large percentage but it is rapidly shrinking.

Then you will get the percentage that don't have a pot to piss in, and can't afford to join a porn site. You can lump them in with the people that have money but will NEVER pay for porn. They are a lost cause.

Finally, you have a percentage that used to buy memberships to every porn site under the sun, and were an affiliate's/program owner's dream. Somewhere along the line they got fucked, either from a prechecked cross sell to their debit card that caused their other checks to bounce, a member's area that didn't update once during their membership, a customer service issue that went ignored, etc. They are the one's that we didn't have to lose, but once they took it in the ass repeatedly they used that as a justification to steal porn from that point forward. I honestly believe this is the largest percentage that matters.

So yes, you take care of the members you have, and they won't go looking for that free lunch. You piss them off, and you have a problem...

I'm not sure if playing devil's advocate is your new board persona, but this is surprising coming from somoene like you who has always spoken out.

First, I fail to see how he's doing anything to jeopardize his future. He works for a company that produces high quality exclusive content. Companies that steal that content steal from his company. Companies that play games with Zango and shit steal from his company. Companies that piss off surfers so much that they don't bother touching an adult site again are hurting his company. I can't fathom one thing that he has spoken out about being of a differing opinion of the company he works for.

And if his reign ends because of speaking out, so be it. There are people in this world who would rather work for people they respect than for those who they don't. Would you work for a white supremecy group if it paid well? What about for the NRA if you were heavily against guns? There are some people who would rather not work in this business than for a company that fucks people over.

Finally, sitting back and "knowing your role" is what got this industry into the position it's in. It's what got them the enormous processing fees. It's what got them scrutiny from the federal government. It's what is getting them ratios that make baby Jesus cry. So sitting back hasn't exactly worked over the years, maybe it's time for people who plan to be around awhile to start speaking up.
