but pornogirls.net was available. and porno-girls.com was available.

which one would be better to have? pornogirls.net, or porno-girls.com?

the dash is fine.... the only time the dash would ever hurt is if you are promoting your site by voice ie. radio ads or people talking about it to each other on the phone or face to face...

I would take the .com with the dash for sure

I have 3 non .com domains and one is because or historical reasons and the other two came in a domain auction package with a com I was interested to buy.

Unless you are interested in some country specific stuff you should go with .com

Because if youre dumb enough to go for the hyphen option or the net domain and pump serious traffic into it....... ultimately youre going to leak buckets of traffic to whoever has the dot com without hyphen.

walk up to any random non-internet savvy person, example, our customers... and tell them a domain name just randomly, continue with a current conversation, then about 10 minutes later ask them what domain name you gave them, 9 times out of 10, if it wasn't a .com they would most likely get it right, except in the .com version and not whatever it really is...

because of tv, its been ingraved into peoples heads to use .com instead of anything else....

ok thank you, you are talking about conversation, but i never meet users of my sites in real life and i never talked to them, everyone came to my sites from search engines, and that is making me money. so if i have my .info sites in better possition than .com, why to care if its .info or .com? maybe if user dont bookmark my site he can get back to .com instead of mine .info, but its very few people who dont remember well i think ... and of course, i am not making big bussiness from tv advertisement, so thats why its not that important for me i think ...

EXAMPLE:

Lets say you pump traffic to your teencat.net and its doing 10,000 visitors per day.

Teencat.com will automatically get say 2000 visitors (sometimes less, sometimes more) per day from people who are forgetting your site is .net - people remember .com because its so heavily marketed on all sites.

Do you want someone else to get 20% of your traffic for free?

ya gotta think about all aspects of traffic sources... i've had a few people i know personally ask me about a site and specificly say .com after it, but i knew they ment .net/org/info/ws/gaysite/fff/www/ghah so the average user thinks .com naturally over any other extension

You guys need to get smart, I do good sales on info and net domains, and hyphen isn't bad either. Heck my best selling site at the moment is a info site

That's only true if its a serious typein domain name... otherwise it makes no difference at all, since everyone clicks organic search terms.
