Anybody have fiber to home internet?

Anybody have this high speed internet? I was reading the other day about Verizon offering this service. Somebody said they had 68mb upstream. Talk about uploading things fast, damn!

PamiebDVD 10-03-2007 06:56 PM

I've got it and it rocks! I don't recall the actual upstream rate, but it has cut my time by more than half. Plus, by changing over to the fiber, I ended up saving a ton of $$ over my DSL. I highly recommend it. :2 cents:

I too have a fiber line at my house.. its under the ATT network, and although the pipe can be as big as 60+ mb, they have me capped at 6mb. Regardless, if you can get it, then I suggest you do for when they do open up the pipes....

What! Oh man that sucks to be limited. 6mb is just like a cable modem.

I have Verizon Fios and freaking love it. I have about a 5mbps upload and 20mbps download. When I was on Comcast cable, if I were to upload a gig of content, it would take about 12 hours. Now, less than 1.

The dude who installed it told me that the line can actually push 100mbps down and 20mbps up, but I don't think they're offering that package yet.

Most cable modem companies cap your upstream at 768, 512 or 1 MB. 6 MB up would be one hell of an improvement. At my old house (this was about 3 years ago), I used to pay Time Warner $270 a month for commercial cable service that gave me 1.5 up and 1.5 down with 10 static IPs. Despite the fact that the caps sounded lower, I am sure I transfered more than anyone else on any other of the available plans in the same amount of time. Upstream really does make a huge difference.

I got the Verizon FIOS "big daddy" package. The max that they offer at this time is 30 MB up. I have some friends that work for verizon and was telling me that they will be moving to 100 MB UP AND DOWN!!! I think I came in my pants at that time!!

Shoehorn! 10-03-2007 09:06 PM

Kevsh 10-03-2007 09:19 PM

Now, do they let you have a static IP with it? Thats the killer. :-)

Fios has been out for a while now..unfortunatly those of us in very urban setting arent getting it. The other big boys (Comcast and Timer Warner) have a monopoly and wont let Verizon lay down the thread!
