Man, this just seems pathetic. Guy risk his life for the US and we in turn throw his wife out. She was a war refugee, can't even imagine what she has been through.

It doesn't matter who she's married to, she's not a US citizen. They came to the US in 1989 - You would think that someone somewhere would have filed the paperwork to become a US citizen.

Riddle me this - they've been married since 2004, then in June 2007 she already KNEW she was in danger of deportation and they haven't applied for her to get status through the marriage?

Agreed Richard. Legal immigrants pay their dues. Literally. We pay for the paperwork filing, we pay for the loss of income, we pay out the fucking ass.

If they don't follow the process, they are GONE. It's the fucking LAW people... follow it.

I think it's noble that he's serving our country - I'm former military myself - But this doens't change anything. His wife isn't a citizen and she's been here since 1989. I understand she was five when she came to the US but it's time to piss or get off the pot already. It's a matter of filing the correct paperwork. It's a long process but it's well worth it in the long run.

I have a friend of mine who married a woman from Cuba. Her and her sister came to the US in the late 80's. Her sister.... has medical various medical conditions that do not permit her to work. While her medical conditions are real and not made up to avoid work..... How is that the US Goverment has been supporting her for nearly two decades?

The process to become a US Citizen is a long one.... She was in the process of becoming a US citizen when she got married, which changed her status, which caused her attempt at becoming a US Citizen to go back to the beginning.

So we're talking at least 3 years have gone by so far. I'm sure if the INS saw they had been working on obtaining her citizenship for 3 years, this wouldn't be an issue. Something tells me they just didn't bother even applying for it.

I suspect a military man marrying a foreigner is quite common and the military lawyers are quite familiar with the paperwork needed.

They haven't deported her, in June they gave her another one-year extension to get her shit in order.
