what will happen when people stop dying???

a child born today in a first World country will live 97 years (male) and 103 years
(female), so I'd say a child born 50 years from now will simply never die, but then what? will people start populating the moon, the planets? will there be more wars?

whatcha think?

Tom_PM 10-03-2007 08:34 AM

Logan's Run!

Iron Fist 10-03-2007 08:36 AM

Women will have an excuse to completely stop having sex for procreation purposes.

50 years from now? Don't be silly. Perhaps in 500 years time, people may live to be 120 but that's a stretch too.

Brother Bilo 10-03-2007 09:10 AM

Don't worry about it. People will always be able to figure out a way to do something stupid and get themselves killed. My guess is that the Darwin Awards will continue to be given out for many years to come.

JamesK 10-03-2007 09:12 AM

So basically you think humanity will become immortal in 50 years? Nice.

StuartD 10-03-2007 09:15 AM

Well, let's say that the theory held true that we could stop death... we'd all live forever. Well, the planet would be over populated pretty damn fast. With that would come a lot of hate as the stresses grow exponentially just from there being no room... .much less the total destruction of borders and cultures and races as everything melds into one big mess.

Within 10 years time or so, there would be a riot on a global scale that would decimate the world's population and leave very little left to rebuild with.

Sounds like a job for this guy.

There is no immortality to be had any time soon, if ever, unfortunately. All living animals age at the cellular level and the whole organism level and accumulate damage that can't really be repaired in the long term.

Some animals like turtles can live for 200 years. Some trees can lives for 5000 or more. Some micro-organisms have been in a form of suspended animation for 200,000 years and wer able to be revived.

The increasing number of peole jst lving to 100 is causing problems in Japan. even if "only" living to 150 became common it would create huge problems. That's at least 100 years away though.

The cost of medical care will control the population

The more money you have, the longer you will live

kinda like today

spacedog 10-03-2007 09:44 AM

Solution:

Get yourself cloned.

Once your clone is 21, have your brain transplanted from yourself into your clone..

Repeat process every 25 years :)

The bible teaches us , that when the average age of man reaches 120 the earth shall parish and the rapture shall emerge!

Jimmy Rock 10-03-2007 09:54 AM

there will always be murder and war

PunkRockXXX 10-03-2007 09:55 AM

thats impossible

population control will always be around ie abortions, disease, suicide, murder, etc.

closer to 50 than 500 IMO, the number of inventions in the past 50 years is greater than the number of inventions in the past 350 years, meaning we advance at much faster rate than ever

Joesho 10-03-2007 12:09 PM

do we ever really die? or do we evolve?

wyldworx 10-03-2007 12:32 PM

the earth will have an organic human fleshlight until we grow beyond the stratoshere. The reaction would incur a chemical reaction much like an implosion, scattering the universe with humanoids (human-asteroids), drifting in hope of thumbing a ride to a planet, moon or cosmosphere to start again as amoeba.

sounds like something we should aim for.....

ztik 10-03-2007 12:34 PM

In order for us to not die. We need to rewrite our genetic code. Its not that we "wear out", its that our body starts tell us its time to die and starts deteriorating.

There are people working on finding out how to modify this though. So yeah someday, we will never die, or possibly never age if we choose to do so.

KILL_FRENZY 10-03-2007 12:39 PM

The stuff they are doing with stem cells may change that. We may go in someday for "tune ups". We might change our kidneys every 30 years like we'd change tires on a car. We might just be able to regenerate everything in our body over and over. Still hundreds of years away.
