FBI: We will not inspect secondary producers until the new regs are in effect

I've obtained more info from the head of the FBI's inspection team, including an on-the-record assurance that the FBI will not be inspecting secondary producers until the revised regulations proposed in July have been finalized. Read the full article here.

I would expect no less.

Thanks for the confirmation, though... and the link. :thumbsup

Yea but how long before the regs will be finalized. Then at that point how far back can they go. It's still pretty much impossible for the average TGP or other kinds of free site operators to follow 2257.

If past revisions are any indication, the new regs will not be finalized for another 6-10 months. Currently, the DOJ is reviewing the comments submitted to them during the public comment period. Next they will issue a response to the public comment, specifying which (if any) comments they are adopting. Only after that back and forth will the regs be finalized/effective.

Last time around, the whole cycle took about a year from proposed regs to final regs; the latest proposed regs hit the federal register on July 12, 2007.

seeing how the government operates, when the arm of the law is focused on a little guy running a tgp or other he is going to be screwed, regardless of whether it is pretty much impossible

it is not a legal situation anyone will want to find themselves in I think

dumb laws are never an excuse when they happen to get after you, and the fact that many others are breaking the law too doesn't help in any defence either

Thanks, Quentin you have been a great information resource to our industry.

Yes that is the issue at hand.. The sad part about it is, it's likely if I stay in adult and these laws take effect in somewhat the form they are today. I'll end up starting my own paysite and using my free sites to promote it.

I see that as the only possible way to run free sites "and" comply with the law. So in essence the law will either push me out of the biz, or turn me into a actual content producer adding more porn to the net.

Do you know how many secondary producers there are? Is the FBI going to inspect all of them? And if not, then what is the point? lol...

Well I deal in the "teen" niche and hold some good SE rankings for teen related keywords. Well I'd assume I'd be a little higher on the ladder than say a guy that runs general "porn star" style sites.

Good info Q

This is funny...

You see, when these regulations came out I was one of the only ones saying they weren't to shut down all porn but were for protecting children. And they have been used solely to check on suspect models of a young looking age.

Interesting info, thanks.
