Radiohead giving away their new album

I thought this was pretty cool. I love Radiohead and they have decided that they will basically give away their new album. After finishing their last record on Capitol Records the band chose not to sign with a new label. So they have recorded their new album and you can download it from their site. They ask you to pay whatever you want. If you pay 1cent, cool. If you pay $100 that's cool too. They are also releasing a limited edition boxed set that they charge for, but the album itself can cost you a penny.

I think this is very cool. They are an established band that will sell out every date of their tour even without this record so they decided to give it away. I wonder if anyone else will follow their lead.

Now if only a good band would release a free album.

I can already feel the Radiohead-fan wrath brewing.....

Actually tours are not very profitable, they are used to promote new album sales.

I love radiohead's songs, I regularly play and sing them on the guitar while gigging

Ummm I do not pay much attention to modern music so please excuse my niavity.

An evil record company paid them lots of money allowing them to become a well known band and do concerts. They would front album costs, push shit to magazines, get air time, and in essence invest in some people who would otherwise be playing bi weekly gigs for beer money.

So now they are not going to renew (fine thats business) and try to take some PR stance of "we are cool we are going to give it away for pennies" routine now go pay ticket master 300.00 please to see us?

Sure I do understand times are changing, music will be sold by the song again like it used to be anyways (yes kids they sold singles). I also see why record companies are wanting to protect their own stuff. But why do I feel that in this case the artists are more the bad guys?

Nevermind it is late and honestly music is not much my thing anymore.
