seo question only experts read

I got some guys spamming a forum of mine. There bots posts legit stuff, but then for a period "." link to there site. Is this a good marketing practice if you are not spamming?

Linking from forums gives you almost no SE strength. They are probably just trying to leach your traffic

This is one of the most pointless 'seo techniques' i've ever heard of.

Well, its called spam and certainly an unethical technique. Moreover, it will not give you any benefit in search engines because all your links will be using period as anchor. This will increase link pop, but whats use of that? Even if you run after PR, it will be of no use because threads of most forums hardly get any decent PR.

So, dump this technique and think a better one.

Just a hint, one high quality backlink is better than 100 low quality ones.

They put it as a period as it's harder for the admins to notice it. It allows their link to be on more pages cause since it tends to go unnoticed they tend to stay there for a while. I had a lot of them for a bit also, Then they finally stopped hitting my forum.
