Why can't people follow through?

I understand things come up. Cars get flats, people get sick, but in general, why can't people follow through on what they say they're going to do.

On the most basic level, I'm trying to give away a free couch. Two people have said they'd come get it. One guy emailed five times and called three more times to say he'd be here. It's five hours past when he said he'd be here, no call, no email, nothing.

And it goes up to bigger issues from there - but it all comes down to communication. If you can't make it - let me know!!! Simple as that!!!

It's a shame that people are like that, but, when it's free, they tend to care less. If you offered it for $10, a college kid probably would pick it up off of Craigslist.

I've never had problems giving away free shit when I give it away through FreeCycle. If the first person flakes, the second always comes to grab it. :thumbsup

I agree. That is one of the most annoying things. Not much you can do about it though but lead by example.

I have had this discussion with some of my reliable friends on many occasions; and there is really no way of changing people like that! Most of the time I feel like the one putting forth all of the effort only to be walked all over! Just know that you're not alone in your frustration, and like AL Brad said; lead by example!!!

All I do is stick shit in the alley next to the dumpster. It is gone within hours. :)

Moving furniture takes two people. Did you offer to help them move it? If not they are probably having trouble finding someone to move it

It is a huge problem in society today!

Luckily, I've never had that issue. Whenever I start something, I alway

Funny that you say that about the $10. We thought of that and almost charged some small amount because people figure if it's free it's no good.

I've never used FreeCycle - will have to check that out. Generally I'm a Craigslist fan and it works really well. Once I followed up on an ad by this woman who was moving and she wanted to give away whatever was in her storage bin. She figured if she hadn't used it in months she didn't need it.

She was handing out tons of useful items. I walked off with new candles, a huge box of Christmas wrapping paper (always looking for that stuff). Some DVDs - and oddly, a hand drawn picture of a Klingon!

I've had good luck obtaining things through Craigslist, but every person who's wanted anything I've offered for free, has flaked. 5 of them in one day, alone! That's when I started putting things on FC.
