Saving a wet cell phone...

Quote:

Did you ever drop your cellphone in a puddle or even the toilet? I did. (Don?t ask how that happened?) It happens to be one of the most annoying things to happen to a cell freak like me. It usually means you have to replace your phone, which obviously sucks. But now - thanks to the experts at WikiHow - we learn that sometimes, if you?re fast enough, you can still save your baby in time.

* Remove the Battery. This is one of the most important steps. Don?t take time to think about it, electricity and water do not mix. Cutting power to your phone is a crucial first step in saving it.

I've had friends drop theirs in toilets before...I'm not going to jinx myself, so I'll STFU about it in my case...

Anyone here ever took their cell phone for an inadvertent swim?

I dropped my phone in the toilet once. I fished it out super fast but unfortunately, I tried turning it on too soon, and over time, things corroded. Always turn things off and let them dry completely before using again!

I swam with mine earlier this summer :(
Good thing my niece had just upgraded her phone, and her old one was the same model as mine.

This will work with any electronics. Just make sure that you don't turn them on for a day or two. If you can remove the battery that is the best thing to do as the little blurb suggests. if you can not then just make sure it is off.

That said...don't get your hopes up. If the device is on and lands in water there is a good chance that it is going to be fried before you even fish it out.

Yeah somehow my phone attracts itself to water. Plus we have this fun game in the office where everyone snap each other's phone if you leave it lying out. That doesn't help my phone's life span.

Thanks for the tips but I don't think there is any hope for my Palm Treo...

Fell off my dock last week when fishing with some friends and took my Treo with me! Yes, a fair bit of vodka was involved. Ended up swimming around with it in my pocket for about 15 mins.

My buddy told me to put it in the dryer like someone else mentioned. I'm like, "It ain't happenin.. there rust coming out the back, acid, and salt water behind the touchscreen."

It's gone, ordered a new one this morning.

I left mine in my pants pocket. Put it through the washer and dryer.

and it still worked

mistergardener 09-28-2007 01:26 PM

My phone fell off the lake. I never got it back.

MorningWood Stefen 09-28-2007 01:27 PM

Many times. I hate it when that happens!

Deej 09-28-2007 01:30 PM

I poured coke into my video camera once... it started sizzling and popping right away, I swear i mighta even seen a smidge of smoke..

disconnected everything and let it dry, worked the next day and every day since...

who knows
