Saw this just a few minutes ago.

"Will Smith's son, Jaden Smith, co-starred with him in The Pursuit of Happyness and now he may be the next "Karate Kid." Sony is planning to remake the classic film which starred Ralph Macchio as a bullied boy who gets taught how to be a bad ass karate bitch by a martial arts master."

They've already ruined so many classics do they really need to violate this piece of cinematic genius?

Its not the writers, its the big studios.They are run by marketing departments so they dont want to take a chance on new shit.They have made the budgets so crazy they want a sure thing. If the same group ran hollywood in the 70's most of those great movies never would of been made.

See that wouldnt work, the back story was he lost his wife and son while fighting in ww2. So daniel became his son and he opened his heart again.

i was gonna say that remakes are ok if there's enough years between the original and the remake but thinking about it - Wizard of Oz is over 70 years old and it still shouldn't ever be remade.

what's the best remake ever? I can't think of one.

Down and out in beverly hills was a remake of a french film but American to american remakes cant think of one worth a shit.
