I hate VideoCharge....
I use VideoCharge alot. Clipping scenes from full length movies, encoding, making 30 sec. clips and thumbs, etc.
Recently, though, I've noticed that its not working properly. Sound and video aren't together (looks like the old dubbed karate movies..mouth moving and then the sound starts), when inserting a toggle to clip a movie it will actually start the clip approx. 30 sec. later (and the end toggle is wrong also), crashes when encoding in flash. And I have it installed on 8 different computers..they are all behaving the same way. This morning I got the "update available" message, and downloaded it. When I went through the activation b-s, it said "unknown error, must do it manually on the website". I put in the serial # and instalation code and hit the activate button, and it tells me that i have max'ed out my licenses and must buy another license (for a computer that it is actually leagally licensed for) I have sent the "support team" an e-mail, but i'm not waiting for a month for a reply. I'm done with it. Can you guys recommend some other software that does the same things as VideoCharge? I don't care about price, just quality. Thanks in advance... |
i just use boilsoft, works great

Sorenson Squeeze is AWESOME
CleanerXL is great too, but pricey as hell, but IMO it is the best of the best |
I've heard that Cleaner XL can do basically everything, including the batch processing of clips etc.
It doesn't work on Vista yet though, which is why I bought Video Charge instead. (well that AND the price difference) |
VideoCharge has potential as a batch splitting tool with similar functionality as Boilsoft's Splitter when one uses the "no recompression" splitting option that they incorporated into the program recently. But unfortunately it can't properly split Quicktime files without recompression, at least in the penultimate version that I tried.

Videocharge is the shit, What format are you encoding from what to what.
Did you make sure you set the right speeds, It's not like you can take a 15fps and convert it to 29fps and vice versa 30fps to 29fps. |
- Sorensen Squeeze (dont like the max files encoded limit)
- ProCoder (really thinking about switching to this one) - Cleaner XL (been buggy when encoding A LOT of files lately.. and tech support is crap) All these apps are at the $500 range. |
thanks guys, all good ideas. here's the drawbacks (as i see them anyway)
sorensen squeeze, great, but only for flash... boilsoft, too many different things to buy and use (i want 1 to do it all) cleaner xl, i know nothing, but i'm checking into it. procoder, fantastic, we own it, but it sucks at splitting 1 file into many, it's main power is using my quad-core processor and blowing the doors off of everything else in terms of encoding time. Bird, yes, the correct speeds have been set, normally everything we get is 29.97fps or 25fps, and i keep the output same as original or down to 15 fps... i will also agree the videocharge is the shit, it does so many things well, it is just frustrating when it does work properly... |
