Subject: OC3 Networks - Network Upgrade Notice

Dear OC3 Networks and Web Solutions Clients:

We are proud to announce the installation and upgrade of our already exemplary network. We are currently in the process of two major upgrades which will result in extremely increased performance and stability overall.
One of these upgrades is our recent investment in the Internap Flow Control Platform (FCP), which is an automatic route optimization platform utilizing many individual and power hardware appliances which inspect, probe, and analyze our network as well as traffic destination networks for latency, packet loss, and shortest AS routes. The Internap FCP acts as an automatic on the fly routing optimization engine. In layman terms this means that on a minute by minute basis, this platform will be optimizing routes to each specific destination by analyzing which of our many backbone providers is reaching the destination with the lowest latency (ping), lowest packetloss, and the shortest amount of ASN hops (individual networks). It is a very advanced and complicated process which will result in immense overall performance and uptime. You may notice several small network blips today, and they are attributed to the installation and configuration of this optimization platform. We apologize for the small issues you may be seeing today while we perform this upgrade for long-term reliability and speed.

The second upgrade being performed today is the increase in capacity of Level(3) up to 20Gigabits per second, or 20,000Megabits per second. Increasing our business relationship with Level(3), we felt was a strong business decision to move us farther into the revitalized Internet industry, or as some know it as, Web 2.0. This increased capacity will allow us to provide you with long-term growth options and capabilities without suffering through capacity slow downs.

We hope you will enjoy these spectacular upgrades, and thank you for your patience while we perform them.

Thank You for your business!

That is great and all, but a notice like this should be sent out BEFORE you turn shit off, some courtesy would be great, gives one a chance to warn affiliates, members and the likes.. or am I a total idiot for believing this?

TidalWave 09-27-2007 07:36 PM

We actually did send one out 48 hours prior, however our mail server puked when it tried to send it to the large amount of email addresses and unfortunately we didnt double check as software said everything was completed successfully.
Oversight on our part, and we deeply apologize for it but are very excited for the soon to be increased performance and efficiency.

I do not believe any other hosts in the adult industry currently utilize this type of optimization platform; whether it is the Internap FCP or Avaya platform.
Upon completion of these upgrades, we will return to the rock solid network we had before except with faster speeds, and on the fly 24x7 optimization.

AliGbone 09-27-2007 07:36 PM

downs is downs everyone has 10 and 20 gig connections now-a-daisys yous should notify your clients prior to the maintenance goin on 2 and 1/2 hours now

TidalWave 09-27-2007 07:40 PM

you mustve missed the part about the Internap FCP, and my second post.

Jon B 09-27-2007 07:44 PM

OK so your email goes down how about calling clients or posting somewhere we can see like here. We do not seem to be having any problems today but I agree a little notice would be nice..:2 cents:

TidalWave 09-27-2007 07:46 PM

4000 servers and 15,000sqft of datacenter space is the new small :D

dont forget that you are not experiencing a constant outage, there are only small blips here and there.
we've invested several hundreds of thousands of dollars in the Internap FCP appliances which will make our network the best available. PERIOD.

No one else can claim on the fly, automatic, route optimization.

---

We are all agreeing that advance notice would be nice, there was a mistake that made that not possible however and we apologize.

Jon B 09-27-2007 07:50 PM

Thanks for the info TidalWave! Looking forward to the improved network!!!

your attitudes alone makes we want to cancel!

on the fly, automatic, route optimization = DOWNTIME

move along newbs :321GFY :1orglaugh

TidalWave 09-27-2007 07:55 PM

i dont see what attitude i am portraying? I am just explaining the situation to you. i dont have anything against you even though you seem to have a grudge with me even though ive never met or spoken to you.

what is your server IP so i can investigate any specific problems you are having?

AliGbone 09-27-2007 08:10 PM

Grudge? no grudge i hust want my sites up without dese lame excuses and some sorta priors notification yous can id me tomorrow when i cancel my servers and move dem:winkwink:

minusonebit 09-27-2007 08:20 PM

Their network has been rock solid for me, the server that I have there has rarely seen any downtime, this and one other time is all I can recall, and thats it for the last, what, year? I am not complaining.

My other NOC where I have my other server has had more fires and floods than the bible. In their defense, they have not had any since they moved out of that hellhole in Kansas City. One of their techs once told me that Slackware cannot be installed on Dells or Compaqs and they blame all outages on the core router. One of their techs used to go and pull the plug on my server because he didn't like me and then I'd have to call the other managing partner to get it turned back on.

So, all things considered, OC3 has been A-OK in my book. Every host has downtime every now and again, its a fact of life.

Actually Splitinfinity does just wanted to note that. Anyways back off a little guys, it sucks that your down but the guys at OC3 are good people and have always been a good host in my eyes. They are upgrading performance to there network. This happens I do not care where you host once every couple of years certain upgrades are done to improve the network and you will experience some down time.

If you do not wish to go down spend the money on your own router and have your own bandwidth provider running to your cab/cage for situations like this. :2 cents:

Ycaza 09-27-2007 09:03 PM

Sorry guys, Indeed there is an upgrade going on to finish the total upgrade to all 10 gig ports, I got the mail late and would have notified you all, but I too did not get the date mail. Last of the upgrades are just about done, sorry again for the down spots. If you need anything more feel free to icq me personally.

Being down for upgrades wasn't the point. You make no sense, spending money on my own router blablabla.. I AM paying every month and always on time, so I should not be treated right since I don't pay for my own router? and trust me i am paying for bandwidth..

Oc3 has been good to us as well, but pulling down a 27 site network a box with all my hosted galls on it etc without ANY notice is fucked up, no matter who you are or what you say.

My sites seem to be up now and I hope it stays that way.

Sebastian

Ditto 09-27-2007 09:11 PM

I don’t think they are mad because of the upgrades at all, I think it’s the fact no notification was given so those who wish could tell affiliates and members that their sites might be up and down for the day and the reason why.

I think that’s what everyone is upset about. I know some people called and got an email about the upgrade after they hung up, which is not cool.

No one is saying OC3 is a bad company at all; they just want to be aware of things so they don’t have angry people contacting them if they can not access sites.
