Website Tour dimensions? The width should be no more than what?
I see from logs that the majority of surfers have their resolution set at 1024 x 768 with the least being 800 x 600
What's the consensus on design width these days? |
More and more people are starting to design for 1024 (960 max)... depending on the type of site, what I try and do is make the main content still fit in 800x and the sidebar menus etc. take up the rest of the space... I've got 1 design where the site looks good at 800x and 1024x because the main content column scales to fit what's available. Still.. it really depends on what % of YOUR traffic is still 800x

Thanks for the response.
I was talking to someone today that said approx 10% of their traffic are surfing with browsers set at 800 x 600 ... my numbers are much lower than that ... but 10% is still a considerable number to me. |
ill show u a "log"

bumpppppp
|
For about a year now I design all my sites at 960 px wide, with a nice tile for background, it looks neat even if there is still some "unused" space each sides on 1024+ screen

Somebody just mentioned an auto detect for resolution and displaying another more appropriate sized tour

bummmmp again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yea the normal before, and as far as basic goes, still is... 768
considering the sidebar a tour would be ( if you wanted to fit the edges ) around 740 but many surfers are upgrading now adays and everything is going bigger.. A lot of blogs i work on now are 800 and 900 wide even... but thats blogs...whatever, vertical attraction... theres no standard... but if you want to please all, even the dinosaurs... fit the 768 screens... |
950-1000px is the future
I bet that within a year we'll see ~1200px wide tours too think about it, most monitors today are at least 1280px wide - those still on 800x600 are probably using old crt's and those sure don't last forever, so they need to go out and get new ones.. and if those aren't available in less than 1280xY then, well.. you figure that out.. anyway, that scenario means that those you still have visiting your sites on 800x600 resolution probably are from very low-wage areas and that they couldn't afford to join your site anyway :) In fact, I've heard from a few paysites owners that they don't even WANT 800x600 surfers.... |
