Has Porn Reached its Peak

I was just watching a program on tv called "How Porn Conquered the world"
Some very intresting topics raised about how the porn industry is saturated and reached its peak, with the porn industry on the net it is so easy and cheap to set up a adult website, and there are so many porn websites that users are just tired of seeing the same thing over and over. Just as film killed of the theatre and mag sex industry they reackon the net is killing off the adult cd industry, and it coming to a point where users are looking for something different, They reackon the next big adult industry is gonna be in the Ipods and the mobile phones, what are your thoughts on this, Is the adult industry that saturated that people are getting bored with it and are looking for something new

xNetworx 09-26-2007 04:20 PM

There is no money in porn :2 cents:

Donfoolio 09-26-2007 04:21 PM

You can't jack off to a lil cell phone screen so I doubt that is the future of porn. and no I don't believe it is at it's peak. As long as there are dirty minds porn will exist and be strong. The two most powerful things that fuel human desire, are violence and sex. I believe the future of porn is... Cuckold!

RawAlex 09-26-2007 04:23 PM

Nope. Porn is the second oldest profession (right after prostitution... basically caveman charging other caveman a buffalo leg to watch his sister do some guy. It never peaks because people always want to see.

In fact, the rise of christian and muslim fundementalism makes porn even more desirable, and even more in demand. The more repression there is, the more desirable it is.

Imagine how much money you could make in some countries getting muslim girls to take off their hijab? 49.99 a month to see hot muslim girls without veils! Maybe even in a skirt or a tank top! Woohoo!

Porn isn't just about banging bodies.

headless ghost 09-26-2007 04:30 PM

lol you would be beheaded for that:) but a good idea

I think the general idea of the "new" adult sites will need to be more interactive(like webcam shows) or something new where online adult users can interact with other users more. kinda make it more exciting instead of just watching movies or looking at pics by yourself and jacking off. Maybe those interactive suits or something

billywatson 09-26-2007 04:39 PM

Just a few questions for ya'll to consider:

1) Is gambling at its peak?

2) Is alcohol consumption at its peak?

3) Is tobacco use at its peak?

These are the 4 legal/acceptable vices, and to me, they're gonna be here forever. Shit, even cancer hasn't really fucked up #3, right?

It's declining since a few years. But porn will only get bigger in the comming years allthough a big part will be on "new" mediums (on demand digital television etc)

headless ghost 09-26-2007 05:48 PM

they charge for cigarettes
porn is free

people who jack it to small clips like that are too cheap/poor to get the full versions so why would they pay to put porn on their phone? I honestly don't see porn on phones blowing up big, maybe advertising on them but not selling direct to phones.

Thats a point, one person can download the clip to a mobile phone and give it to all their mates for free using blue tooth

Porn reached its peak at the end of 2004. It had a brief comeback at the end of the first quarter of 2005, but it's been downhill since then.

The boom is over.

you left out 1 important factor...I CAN'T GET ANY OF THOSE 3 THINGS FOR FREE!!!! PORN IS FREEE and getting even MORE FREE.. Soon you'll pay surfers to view your porn, ( oh yea that's called affiliates)

$40-100PPS 100% revshare, just take 100 sets of my pictures and post them for free on the net, so I might hope for 1 guy to actually spend some money and charge it back in 3 months...Now a program offering 50% revshare is a joke ( Look out music industry, porn is on the way)
PORN is not dead at all..it's just FREE...like music..FREE

So I hope some of these pornstars and producers know how to make clothing lines and perfume

LOTS of big guys are hurting, traffic is dying and no one knows where it's going. I'm surprised not more big companies are posting threads about the slump in traffic and signups, but this is real.

I bet I can count on my hands how many affiliates make 5 figures a month

correct. all of us seen a dip in signups JAN 2006 and each year that passes, signups will be getting lower and lower, while free rip off sites explode. We as producers of content, have to adapt to the changes of the market place and the surfer's habits and tastes, because they do change.. in 2005-06 we did 7 figures on NON NUDE sites..try to launch those same girls today.. you won't get shit

Ok then if porn is becoming so cheap/free whats the next big money making step in using porn..maybe porn games using real actors in scenes at the end of each level that the user completes

StickyGreen 09-26-2007 07:46 PM

How could porn be at a "peak?" As long as humans continue to have sex there will be a demand for pornography.

The program I watched was basicaly saying that the porn industry on the net is saturated and most things have been done in porn from hanging from a chanderler to fucking machines..ect, so people are looking for new and more exciting forms of porn be it with new technology or new kinds of websites.

HouseHead 09-26-2007 07:59 PM

stop while your ahead.

Barefootsies 09-26-2007 08:04 PM

The only thing "declining" are the company's margins.

More competition from both legal, and illegal (torrent, porntube, etc) avenues.

Awesome point I totally missed.

And guess what?

We're the only ones to blame.

Perhaps there's a lesson to be learned from Forest Gump.

A hurricane wiped out the entire shrimpin' boat fleet while Gump was out to sea. His was the only boat left intact - and he laughed all the way to the bank.

Hell if I know what the lesson is...just be thankful Gump don't do porn.

Peak? Not in volume and availability, not in sales amounts, but in saturation maybe. It's possible that the PERCENTAGE of the general population which is willing and able to purchase porn has peaked. Then again, maybe not.

I'll do a study for $300k, it will be very accurate and may take several years. :)

sysk 09-26-2007 11:57 PM

interesting topic... if you are interested in the next big things of the future (not only related to porn), take a look at http://www.iftf.org/features/reports.html (institute for the future). I think that the 2 next big things, which are pretty much interrelated are :
1) GPS technologies ... soon, every cellphone will come with an integrated GPS
2) Context-aware gaming: computer games will be partially virtual and partially real. The context will be real (environement and other players), but the interactions will be virtual. Gamers will have special glasses that will incorporate virtual elements. Think of a real life pac man game hahaha :)

Both of those 2 technologies might have interesting applications to porn, but can't really find any right now.

Maybe it could be a cool thing to have an adult social networking site that uses GPS technology or GPS ad targeting. i.e When you surf the web with your cell phone, advertisements would be related to your location on earth. Let's say you're on corner of street X and street Y... you would see some McDo ads which is located at 10 meters of you... etc.

I agree. And having porn on your mobile gives you the freedom to nip to a toilet at home/office/work wherever...

Mobile and iPod porn is gonna be huge but that doesn't mean internet porn is dead. They still need to be members of paysites to download it.

PORN is equivalent to the LCD industry

There will always be business, but the margins will be squeezed to pennies, everybody is fighting for the same pennies.

SykkBoy 09-27-2007 07:37 AM

The demand for porn isn't peaking. It's probably more in demand than ever.
How we monetize it is the biggest issue facing us.

Also, there are more programs than ever before. Where one whale may have sent his traffic exclusively to one sponsor several years ago, these days, there isn't much loyalty and anyone with a lot of traffic is sending to multiple sponsors in case his main sponsor goes tits up. A lot of the big traffic senders also just simply opened their own paysites.

This industry is a constant game of adapting.

sweetpurple04 09-27-2007 07:43 AM

Porn has been very very good to me :-0

V_RocKs 09-27-2007 08:11 AM

I make a lot of money.... that is all I now.

Brad 09-27-2007 08:18 AM

Um, where to start?

Don't listen to someone tell you about an industry they are not in and don't understand.

Porn going to iPods and psp's, etc. Ask yourself...do you want to watch your porn on a 3.5 inch screen? Do you need to watch porn on the bus or train or plane? I didn't think so.

The people that made that show probably just went on the web and looked for buzz words or what new trends are happening in the industry. They are the same people that are going to tell you all about web 2.0 when in reality it is just a collection of ideas and thoughts at this point.

Has porn reached it's peak? How can you possibly say that until after the fact? it would be like saying you are at the peak of you life and then 10 years later winning the lottery (in case you are stupid I am saying you can only know where the peak is in hindsight).

It'll be a fad like ring tones. Sure first you will need to pay for the clips or movies because the encoding is different. But soon apple or someone will come out with a program to do it for you just like they just did with ring tones. People are not going to pay per download on their cell and if they were willing to then VOD sites would be killing it right now. Once again, people don't want to see content on a 3.5 inch screen. :2 cents:

Porn hasn't reached it's peak, but the work vs. reward wise we are way over the peak....well, it went downhill from the beginning. There is still alot of money in porn, but today it takes alot more than a few years ago to make the same $$$$$ every month.

30k/month 10 years ago was as easy as learning how to build a dozen sites with a few galleries each with a crappy html editor.

Nowadays, you'll have to invest alot more to make the same. Have a look at what's hot at the moment: All those tube style sites are bandwidth hogs, building one needs at least some solid knowledge about programming and scripts.

Same for paysites, if it's not a small niche, you either need extreme high quality pics like MetArt, Femjoy, etc. or loads of videos, everything has to be exclusive, you have to update several times a month or even a week. 10 years ago one content CD and a few stream plugins made a big baller paysite.

The industry grew up. With a well positioned company, you will still be a big earner, but for freelancers it definately got harder.

DaddyHalbucks 09-27-2007 12:37 PM

Porn is not dead. Technology is just changing its distribution and profit centers.

Probably, as you know it ...
The industry leaders aren't to be found here.

nation-x 09-29-2007 06:28 PM

innovation will change the environment... someone will invent a new way to make money. Personally I think it will be serving content in a different media... I think that we are still in the infancy of the internet and that one day there will be a marriage of sorts between cable tv and the internet... I am just not sure what that will look like or how it will work... but it's a sure bet.
