I admire the guy’s courage. In America you would be hard pressed to get a US president to debate / speak in front of local opposition let along travel to another country and address its people.
Truth is, in all honesty a lot of what this man is saying is actual fact
1. Fact.. how can the US attempt to prevent developing nations from acquiring a nuclear deterrent when were producing 3rd generation nukes that are 10X more powerful than the one we dropped on Hiroshima
2. Fact … we are the only country to ever drop a nuke on innocent people

TV news and commentary has a huge influence on how people form their opinions. And thus, a handful of powerful TV people control the nation.
That's why I really liked the idea of finally seeing the president of Iran for who he is, and not what the edits of a 30 second news piece made him out to be.

Perhaps we have different ideas of what constitutes a "pretty sharp fella". My idea of a "pretty sharp fella" is not someone who believes his country doesn't have a single homosexual in it. It also isn't a guy who believes the holocaust never happened. If I ran across a guy on the street who told me that, I'd assume he never graduated high school, you'd apparently consider him smart.
As for a non-CNN/Fox News source on what goes on inside Iran. Lets hear from Amnesty International. Here's their most recent report on what a nice guy he is and all the great things he does.
And while you might think he is great, his country doesn't care for him too much. He has pretty crummy support in Iran, and is met by protests constantly. Their economy is going to shit despite high oil prices, and inflation is at nearly 15%. The Parliament doesn't like him and the Ayatollah won't even meet with him. There has been talk of impeachment and it wouldn't be a surprise to see it happen soon.
This grandstanding that gives you a hard-on is nothing more than an attempt to draw attention away from the economy in their country that people are pissed about. It's no different than when Bush goes on a tift about gay marriage or immigration to try and draw public attention away from the clusterfuck in Iraq.Comment

All Ahmadinejad and Chavez are trying to do is fill the leadership vaccum left after the Soviet Union Collapsed. By being so vocally anti-US and having oil wealth to provide other countries, they are attempted to gain influence over nations that may not yet be fully aligned with the US and EU. That people would admire someone just because they speak out against the US, without looking at that leader's own domestic and international policies is both laughable and sad.
To be perfectly honest, Chavez is doing a much better job at this than Ahmadinejad. While both are trying to become leaders of the non-aligned states, Ahmadinejad's nuclear actions have done more harm to him than good. Think about this, as much as people in the US hate Chavez, few believe we will be invading Venezuela anytime soon. Iran, on the other hand, basically has a Giant bullseye on its back right now because of this guy. Even the Ayatollahs want Ahmadinejad to shut the fuck up about the nuclear issue.
Just a few weeks ago the president of FRANCE predicted that we would have to use military force to prevent Iran from becoming a nuclear power. So while Chavez is gaining support in his region and helped Ortega get elected in Nicaragua as well as sparking more cries for socialism throughout Latin America, Ahmadinejad has somehow united the USA, France, Germany, and Israel around the idea that Iran is a nuclear threat and military action might be needed to stop the threat.
My bet is that sometime in the next 5 years were going to go in and bomb the hell out of that country. I also believe it will be a joint U.S./E.U. or at least U.S./NATO operation. The idea of a nuclear Iran scares the hell out of too many people.Comment

seems like a smart guy. for instance, it takes a lot of balls to go up on a stage in a country that hates you and talk. he apparently made some of what he said up on the spot and imo that takes a really smart guy to do that, under that kind of pressure, and come off well
