News about PayPal
|
Very interesting.
If I recall correctly, PayPal once offered Ebay it's services to transfer money between Ebay's customers but Ebay laughed at them. I'm sure the shareholders are bitching - Why sell out to Ebay when PayPal is fine on it's own. And of course the banks are taking them to court - They see PayPal as the "new wave" of banking, and First Bank USA knows this can kill them. The credit card processors in the adult industry must be concerned; A few of them ruthlessly attacked Tyler of Pay Pal in Phoenix and tried to give PayPal a bad name. Don't believe anything you hear (or read), and only half of what you see. |
paypal's freezing of accounts will land a couple of workers there in jail,
|
paypal needs to sell to someone because the banks can offer zero fees on their payment services to try to gain more customers. they have other revenue streams while paypal could end up fucked if too many switch.

First USA Bank, a subsidiary of Bank One Corp., says PayPal is violating its patents on a "Cardless Payment System,"...
Sounds like another great Business Method patent. |
http://www.paypalsucks.com
and many other sites to get the real dirt on PayPal, I'll never used them, one of my friends account got flagged, they were asking him to fax over utility bill, copy of drivers license etc to make sure it was really him, he had a good amount of money, not millions, but money is money.. my 2 cents. how do I make that icon anyways? |
Paypal is a great service, I like it.
But in the context of things, here's my two cents -- First - Paypal is NOT a threat to banks. Paypal is not another bank, NY I believe already tried to force them into being declared a bank since ANY money deposited with them has no guarantee of remaining there, is completely uninsured and could be lost. The reason the cc's have issues with Paypal is pretty much the same -- adding money to Paypal is considered a purchase the way they are categorized, when they are generally just aggregating money in and disbursing it at a later date. Therefore all the money added into the Paypal system via credit card could become chargebacks for the cc's if Paypal were to go under and not have the money to reimburse on deposits. The government is not too hot on Paypal. Mainly because there is no way to track where money spent thru their system goes -- meaning that internet gambling and other transactions in the US can be facilitated using Paypal without regulation. As I said I love the service but I am not so silly as to figure things will just keep running along like they have to date, otherwise Paypal will find themself on the short end of the stick with forces they cannot overcome. |
