A U.S. Justice Department report released on November 30 showed that a record 7 million people -- or one in every 32 American adults -- were behind bars, on probation or on parole at the end of last year. Of the total, 2.2 million were in prison or jail.

According to the International Centre for Prison Studies at King's College in London, more people are behind bars in the United States than in any other country. China ranks second with 1.5 million prisoners, followed by Russia with 870,000.

The United States has 5% of the world's population and 25% of the world's incarcerated population.

In 2002, 93.2% of prisoners were male.

A survey showed that among the nearly 300,000 prisoners released, 67.5% were rearrested within 3 years, and 51.8% were back in prison.

Police state :(

It was a few years ago when we actually lived in the US, but could even smell it then. Just could not believe the submissive attitude towards anything in a uniform and just not used to that from LE in the EU or several other countries. Got a couple of good friends in LE in the US and they don't trust shit when it comes from the govt and sure as hell would not be putting their life on the line based on anything the govt says - they prefer actual evidence.

It's prob fair to say ya just ain't qualified as a US citizen unless you have been in custody at some time in your life :)
This is one damning indictment xmas13 - amazing:

Buhahahahahaha

Adult internet and offline including prostitution and non reported adult income would not even be a blip on the combined budgets of the prison system complex and the agencies that put people there along with those that bennifit from those agencies dollars via televised ads and the like.

Hell just start with the war on drugs, which is what lands most people in jail and rarely for more than personal use.
You have the entire DEA budget.
All the drug programs and their budgets (dare, so forth)
Grants to states and counties.
Sherrifs budgets.
Task forces budgets.
The majority of criminal court costs and defenses.
The seizure of all assets that are used and or sometimes sold.
The clean up crews.
Huge portions of the Forest services budget.
Then you can get to the prison system itself which includes county jails to federal jails.
Then the near free work they can lease prisoners for.
Then you also get to take into effect the political/finacial swing of having a prison in your county since the inmates often count as residents.
Then the parole department, additional testing, half way houses and the like.
Oh yeah and then the loss of the right to vote by a good chunk of them.
And so forth and so forth.
