Myspace Promotes "Fling" (Pic)

I think this is kind of retarded considering that myspace.com is mainly made up of kids under the age of 18. Here is a screen shot...

Any comments on this?

that is great news

WiredGuy 09-21-2007 08:44 AM

Its called marketing. Same thing True.com does, Mate1, SinglesNet, they're just another dating site buying ads.

Ads are based on the age you put on your account
if you are under 18 you wont get those ads
but if you put your age over 18 you will get more adult-ish ad's

I never said they were all under 18....I said "myspace is mainly made up of kids under 18."

PornMogul 09-21-2007 08:58 AM

although myspace does have kids under 18. The vast majority of members are over 18 and myspace prolly doesnt have those ads showup if your under 18.

quantum-x 09-21-2007 09:00 AM

You're logged in, and you're over 18.

Try logging in on a 13yo's account.

when you buy advertising on myspace, you define your target audience appropriately.

Fake drama?

fris 09-21-2007 09:05 AM

at least they are showing pg ads

ridikuloz 09-21-2007 09:06 AM

doesn't matter, there's 1000's of pedos on myspace.

DaddyHalbucks 09-21-2007 09:08 AM

Looks like a winner.

rob34 09-21-2007 09:10 AM

Just so you guys know....This is NOT a drama thread. I was just wondering.

I have a very close friend that works in MySpace advertising. I was asking this very question, and she said the advertisers give them extremely specific markets to target, and they have the tools to do so.

If you go to one of the Mate1 ads, then click through, it takes you to a page that grays out in a few seconds, with a DHTML pop layer page, which requires a CC to continue.

There are a lot of ways to ensure you get the right target audience, but obviously there will be a number of unwanted clicks regardless.

Chris 09-21-2007 09:15 AM

i can see the issue w/ this tho
my step sister has her myspace age set to 99
and her REAL age is 16

Violetta 09-21-2007 09:56 AM

they are making money... that is what drives us all!

alby_persignup 09-21-2007 10:14 AM

i smell bigbucks goes to myspace

ztik 09-21-2007 10:16 AM

Thats somebody's ad. I purchased ads for those spots on myspace a few times. High traffic, shitty conversions. Good thing its really cheap

Yeah you can choose demographics. So its most likely this won't be showing to anyone under the age of 18. Unless they lied on their page

Brother Bilo 09-21-2007 10:19 AM

Well, it shouldn't really matter because once you get out of high school, it's time to get rid of myspace. Anyone over 18 and still on myspace is fucking lame and should get a life.

You can easily setup a filter to target by gender or age group. And a majority of myspace users are over the age of 18.

Exactly. True and Singlesnet have much racier Myspace ads.

teg0 09-21-2007 11:14 AM

Figures they would.

p1mpdogg 09-21-2007 11:36 AM

if you think myspace is more of 18 and under then you are crazy.

its 50/50

Who gives a fuck?

If your step sister is too dumb to be able to handle adult advertisement, then she has bigger problems in life then seeing some nudity..

popups and sex ads are a reality of the net.... if they are so dumb that it is going to cause them some sort of danger by seeing some sexy pictures, then the parents have already failed.
