So, is the televisions indyustry finally getting it about the net?

CBS has totally revamped their site and are focusing on more community like programming. I think they're finally figuring that instead of having their shows posted all over Youtube and Google Video, people can finally go to them directly... |
Nice thread title typos...looks like I picked the wrong time to stop consuming caffeine...

Looks like NBC's going to be adding more online content too

NBC is going to allow you to download their new shows free now that they pulled their stuff off iTunes. Makes sense to me to offer shows as many ways as possible in hopes of getting people hooked.

I've been watching shows on abc.com for almost a year. They put their most popular shows on about an hour after they play in Pacific time. It's great :)

The more ways to watch, the better

Actually, they are doing something interesting about not just giving the stuff away but trying to build a business model.
NBC apparently is putting stuff online, but in a format that doesn't allow fast forwarding and has the commercials embedded. So just like broadcast TV, you have to sit from NOW to THEN and watch everything in the middle. I think this is probably a pretty effective way to do things. They are being smart enough to know that without someone to pay the freight, the idea will fail. |
I don't have TV at home, I watched Lost and Heroes all online last season, so it's not really that new.

I like what they are doing is something other than "just give more away and hope to make it up in volume". VOD sales, download with embedded ads... they are seeing many different ways to make things work out.

They are pulling all their shit from iTunes. They didnt like the fact that they couldnt charge an arm and a leg for the shows and Apple wouldnt bundle their other low ratings shows along with their high ratings shows. With the prices they wanted to set, if you bought digital cable and paid the monthly fee for a Tivo youd come out way ahead if you had a couple shows you keep up with. Stupid. So they decided to pull their content from the biggest online distributer of mainstream music and tv content... :error |
