STOP SMOKING ! how did you do it???
I'm a heavy smoker....
2-3 packs a day.... I'd be happy just to cut down by 2 1/2 packs a day or if possible go from 60 to nothing you got any secrets?...tried the gum and the patches.... whats next? |

I used to smoke 2-3 package a day. First at all I knew that was going to be impossible to reduce the amount of cigarretes smoked. For some people that works, for people like me that doesn´t work. You have to find which group you are in.
So I choose a day to stop smoking, but I did it taking a few months for advance. For example, it´s like I say now that I´ll stop smoking on 1st March. That gave me time to think about that, to repeat every fucking day all the reasons to stop smoking, why I hate it, so on... Also I used to go out to run or to play soccer, and of course I couldn´t run more than 5 minutes, then when I was almost without air to breath, I started that rude dialogue with myself "look mofo how you are now, you want to live like this the rest of your life?" So, I feel like shit for a few months, and in this way I was waiting for 1st March to start my chalenge. I remembered all people who said that was going to be impossible for me to stop smoking, I charged energy that I got from those hard situations. When I woked up on 1st March I was ready. It was hard, the first 2 or 3 days are the hardest. During those days I did a lot of sport, I was happy when I was not capable of breathing because that made me forget the idea of smoking. I drunk a lot of water and orange juicy. I repeated to myself what kind of life I wanted to live. What was a very good help was marihuana. When I smoked I am really sensitive with my body, so after smoking I was more awake about how fucked up was all my breathing system. It´s not easy but is possible. You must be focus on that, you need to forget everything to work it, to put all your energies on that. It´s possible man, believe me, make that enforce and when you get it you wil feel SO HAPPY! :) |
start running and hitting the gym.

Whenever I wanted a cigarette I would smoke a joint.

i was smoking a pack n half... I just stopped smoking one day. Just mentally told myself I wouldn't smoke.
I wasn't someone you would have wanted to be around for about 3 months. But it's a thing you have to WANT to do. I slipped a couple times while drunk... but since then I maybe have had 5 cigs in 8 years. Biggest thing is not buying the packs. Cause when you boil it down it's you making a decision to light the thing. good luck. |
i started off with 8 pieces of 4mg nicorete a day. cut down to 4 a day. then just stopped chewing. 2 months total. going on my forth month now.
the upside... i can now use stairs without having chest pains or minor heart attacks |

It's a matter of will-power. You gotta be stronger than the urge to smoke.
Good news is, after you successfully do it, you kinda have this epiphany that you're capable of doing anything. In the meantime, pick a day... maybe pick a crutch (the gum, the patch) or don't (remember, it's only a cruth... they don't mean shit if you're not mentally prepared and dead set on quitting smoking. If you're not there, save yourself the time and effort and wait until yuo are)... and stick to it... realizing every time that you wanna light u - if you do - you'll be tossing away all the suffering you've already gone through - making it next to meaningless, and have to relive it again when you finally do decide to quit. That mentality kept me going in the hardest times, and I'm now 7 years cigarette-free. |
i used to be a smoker for 12 years, pack or 2 a day in its hardest days. Just said myself its enough, i really strated to feel something happening to me which wasnt good, so it came up just like that to me. And now its almost 8 years as I quit.
|
never start ;) no ok, i was smoking 2-3 packs everyday last year or so, before it was about 10 years from 10 at the start to 40 cigarettes per day before that heavy year ... then i got fever 40celsius, three day totally off, after three days i said "why the f*ck i am killing myself ..." and never ever light cigarette again. no problems never ever, no stress, nothing, but you know, its only in your head. and btw, its harder to lower the number of pieces than to fully stop ... imho ;) wish you the best with your tries!

and just want to add, stopped before 10months, then 9months daily ganja smoker ... now last month nothing, its really not that hard ... but as i said, its nowhere else than in your head, and the main point is not "i want i want ..." but its about "why i have to even think about it?" ;) you can do it! :thumbsup

I just stopped. 13 years ago. Decided it was time and never lit up another one as I knew just one puff and I'd be back on them again.
I still smoke in my dreams sometimes, and now and again i still feel like one. Never will again though. |
try snus... :)
|
i quit over one year ago.. it wasnt easy but not the hardest thing either.
you pick a time where you will be preoccupied with things preventing you from thinking or actually smoking.. then you cut down in 3 days.. go to 10 cigs/day, then 5 cigs day then 2 cigs/day then have a cigar in the evening for a few days and every so often when you have a strong urge but not more than twice per week... dont go for the patches or the gum, they keep the addiction going in your system |

Nothing beats quitting cold turkey...
|
The longest I quit for was 6 mo. TBH I only stopped because I was feeling particularly lazy and didn't feel like going to the store to pick up more.
The first 3 or 4 days I did things that would normally make me want to smoke cigs. I went to a bar, I went to a strip club, I drove around a lot and ate a lot of food. After that torture, it was easier to not smoke the next few weeks. I took the pride of not having smoked through all that the first few hardest days and weeks to each day at a time. Ultimately stress and a month long, impromptu trip to europe made me start again. You really have to want it and be able to resist. Fuck the patches, fuck the gum. |
it only takes 48 hours for the nicotine to leave your system! after that its just a head game! good luck, it can be done!!
|
Cold Turkey. I was up to 2 packs of nonfiltered.
I decided I was going to quit, so I made a plan. Many people (who usually fail) try to quit by keeping themselves away from the cigarettes. This doesn't work. It doesn't work for dieters, and it won't work for smokers. Buy one pack. Leave the plastic on it. Stick it in your pocket and will yourself to not smoke. It takes one hell of a conscious effort - I caught myself unwrapping it at least three times! :1orglaugh Just keep them with you, and know that you're stronger then the fix they have on you is. After 4 months of carrying them around, give them to a buddy. It'll probably help them stop smoking. :) |
With all the health affects widely known, why does anyone still smoke? I still cant figure it out. Well I can and its very simple really but I dont feel like explaining it right now:pimp:pimp

3 packs holy snikes - goodluck hitting your goal
|
They say for every cig u smoke u lose 7 mins of ur life. So at 3 packs a day your losing 7 hours of your life everyday. Think about that the next time u light up:pimp:pimp

I recently quit (march). Tried the gum and well after a piece I decided cold turkey was best, that shit tastes well like shit. You will get cravings though and when that hits have something to chew or suck on and of course keep your hands busy. However if I did not have a real issue with welbutrin (medical reaction) I would of went that way. You just loose desire to quit after a few days. Stick on that for a few weeks then when you stop you should have no problems remaining off the cigs unless you have no will power at all, and then no version of quiting will really work for you. |
I just quit after going to the hospital gave up 3 packs a day, but i do smoke a few cigars a day now, but no inhaling. I did it once smoking a pipe too.

I used to smoke around 50 a day, hardly had time to shit. Then i saw this advert on channel 10 TV in San Diego for Matrix Laser Centers. They use a low level laser to work on the Meridian points of you body and this produced a wonderful feeling of relaxation that stayed with me for weeks. It made me feel tired the first night. But when i woke up the next day i had absolutely no desire to smoke. I avoided coffee, booze, bars and friends who smoked for about 3 weeks. I followed a simple vitamin regime while drinking a huge amount of water to flush the Nicotine out of my body. Its been 2 years now and i feel great. In fact when im around people who smoke it just makes me feel nauseous. The only down side is that my girlfriend smoked and she didn't want to stop so i dropped her and found a cute girl who didn't smoke. I recommend this process its pain feel inexpensive and takes just an hour. Mind you i would have paid anything to stop this nasty habit....

i stopped smoking this january, without any help or medicine
ther first week was the hardest........ |
Some advices:
- Get an x-ray of your lungs, and place the pics on the walls. - Do NOT buy cigarettes for "just in case". Go for the cold turkey! - After few days, you can smell how bad other smokers smell. Enjoy that you do not. - For every day you save money, put that money away and buy a gift for yourself. Each week. - Go for a walk everyday and enjoy the nature and fresh air. - Avoid coffee, alcohol and other stimulating stuff for a longer period of time. You need to feel the progress in your body, which is motivating. - Eat often, but small portions. - Take one day at the time. If you start smoking again, quit all over again, and don't let it get to you. - Masturbate often! |
have you ever tried snuff? not *that* snuff, but tobacco snuff. i carried around a little case with me when i was trying to quit smoking. it is finely ground tobacco and you snort it. i know it doesn't sound real great going from inhaling to snorting, but i only used it as a fix if i was really jonesing.
herb and exercise also helped me tremendously. good luck! |
I want to quit too..
I kept procrastinating.. I love my coffee in the morning too.. Oh fuck, I am going to be such a miserable prick those first few days... My wife smokes too, but she has no desire to quit.. It's going to be tough trying to not smoke if she's in the house smoking.. Fuck it.. she can go smoke on the porch. |
