IMHO

A Blog contains unique posts/content created by the owner/writers directly.

Slogs on the other hand are usually driven by sponsor supplied content or other automatically generated content which is not unique. Splog = spam blog more or less.

Some people say a splog is a blog that promotes content with the purpose to make money. Other say splogs are blogs with only non-handwritten blog posts. Others say that a splog is a blog which is quickly made and is part of a blog network. Many definitions here which one is right?

One way of looking at it:

A real blog advertises in the sidebar, and has content in the posts.

A splog advertises in the posts -> thumb-to-tour.

------------
Then again there are more black hat ways of using blogs, that could be called splogs etc.

Splogs are most often referred to as spam blogs with little use for the surfer, only used to generate links and traffic to other sites...pretty much like a made for adsense site or doorway pages.

Splogs are automatically generated blogs that use content scraped from other sites. Also they are promoted via ping spam, comment spam (back in the day--no follow tags crushed this), and blackhat methods.
