How much are European surfers accustomed to paying for porn memberships?

From an American standpoint, most porn sites cost $19.95, $29.95 or $39.95

The surfers here, when they actually pay, are used to paying those price points.

Since the dollar is declining now is the best time to make sure your European customers see prices in their own currency...

The question is, will European customers pay 29 euros for a porn membership on a site that costs $29 USD?

What are the price points that would be tolerated over there?

There are a few big site networks billing the same ammount of dollars/euros.

Maybe many surfers will not recognize the fact that they pay more. The big question is: Do those 30% more per european membership make up for the european surfers who don't join at all because they know the dollar price and think it's a ripoff....or at least are surprised about billing in euros and google it.

With a ratio of 4:1 needed, I highly doubt it works out positive.

We have it as 29,95 EUR, otherwise I have seen 19,95 EUR or even 14,95 EUR, they will choose dollars if there would be the "same" price, people ain't dull.

I guess the prices are pretty much the same just calculate with a different exchange rate and make sure you comply with regional standards.:2 cents:

Dont forget - Vast majority of UK surfers do NOT use euros. they hate them lol

make sure you have a £ price as well.

as a european surfer i would be pissed if i knew that i had to pay 29 euro for a site that usually costs 29 usd. cause the 29 usd are only 21 euro at the moment. and when i pay with credit card the currency does not matter anyways.

Kudos on a good thread!

I was having the same discussion with a few of my translators, and they ARE aware of this.

I would say that the majority of sing ups are coming through the rare % that can afford that type of charge, and the one's that are to dumb to realize the fact.

European surfers rather pay in USD, they want to take advantage of the low dollar.

Perhaps you can trick them a bit by showing it as
1 Month for 29.95 euro (39.95 USD)
even if the regular price for your site is 29.95 USD ... just make sure they can't see it.

Not sure tho :)

yeah, and just redirect them based on their IP location. it cant be that hard. i would say less than 1% would actually figure out that we're ripping them off. the ones smart enough to figure it out are the ones downloading it free from torrent sites.

It's not hard at all. I've been dong this with my mainstream and mobile international payments for the past year.

okdesign 09-19-2007 12:40 AM

€29,95 or €39,95 is always OK! :thumbsup

Jumping in here :)

Geoip'ing and/or adjusting US/EU prices as not to piss off the user are good ideas.

Phone-based payment solutions are really strong in Europe. Whether it's pay-per-minute, pay-per-password, or SMS/microbilling, Europeans are often more comfortable paying this way. We pay out $1.48 for each minute that a UK user spends on your site. pretty damn profitable!

thought I'd throw that in the mix :winkwink: :pimp

bobby666 09-19-2007 02:23 AM

most europeans have a rapidshare membership

cranki 09-19-2007 02:28 AM

apple is successful with just that price policy... :)
