So Baddog and I get busted for Speeding coming back from Mexico
 

on the Mexican side, five minutes from the border. A cop pulls us over and tells Baddog that he was going too fast and its going to cost $140 US as a fine and please follow him back to the police station it will take about 20 mins.

First of all we were maybe about 6 miles over limit, so it was all a bullshit shakedown.

So I interject, telling the cop we are in a hurry to get to the airport, can we just pay him and he can submit it. I also say, hey we been here for a few days, we dont have too much money left and have to buy gas as well.

In the end we bargained him down to $110 and he says OK, I'll do it, but cant give you a receipt.

I'm chuckling to my self, fucking bastard starting his day off right, making a buck ten, this is like 7 am in the morning.

He must be making a killing there. Followed us for a bit then fucked off, probably bragging to his corrupt amigos, about fucking a couple of gringos over:disgust

So much for the newspaper article that appeared about a month ago. According to the article the cops were no longer allowed to take cash for tickets, tickets had to be paid with a credit card or check.

ummm . . . I am relatively sure this did not go into the city coffers.

you got off easy I'd say, I've heard way worse stories of corruption there. $110 and you got home w/o spending too much time isn't too bad. my advice is never drive in Mexico ever.

When i was a kid my dad told me about keeping a folded $100 beside my DL in my wallet and then to hand both to the cop upon asking for my DL .. well let me tell you .. my car being torn apart ...full cavity search and 10 day impound of my vehicle taught me this is not really the way to deal with johnny law up here .... hell and I thought $100 was a lot 25 years ago ..
