Sex Pistols reunion gig

They announced today a one off (again) reunion gig in November at the Brixton Academy (probably my favorite show venue). I am torn between perhaps going just because I love old London punk and since I was born in 1976 I missed any chance to see them in the prime and knowing that it will probably suck a bit.

Though, they are also going to re-release God Save The Queen and try to actually make it #1 since when it was out it was banned and was denied that spot.

Ah, choices, choices.

Sex Pistols reunite for one-off concert

The Sex Pistols have announced that they are reforming for a one-off concert in November at London's Brixton Academy. Timed to coincide with the thirtieth anniversary re-release of their seminal album Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols, the concert date will be preceded by the re-issue of singles Anarchy In The UK, God Save The Queen, Pretty Vacant and Holidays In The Sun.

Already music magazine NME have shown their support for the return of the remaining members - John Lydon, Steve Jones, Paul Cook and Glen Matlock - by gearing up their readers to get God Save the Queen to number one on the charts, a position it failed to reach when originally released in 1977. Banned by Radio One, it is one of music's most legendarily apocryphal tales that the chart was rigged by jittery regulators who felt the Queen might not be amused at having her Jubilee celebrations sound-tracked by a fevered anthem to monarchy bashing.

This will be the band's first live date since their Piss Off Tour in 2003, although, Lydon, Jones and Cook did reunite earlier this year in Los Angeles to re-record Pretty Vacant for a video game.

I dunno, I'm pretty sure a decomposed corpse isn't going to remember the lyrics. Though he'll probably sound about the same. ;)

Well, is is the original line up and the one I would be more interested in anyway. I find it interesting how North Americans associate the Pistols more with Sid and people in the UK tend to think more of the band before him. I am sure that has a lot to do with at what stage the band hit the States.

V_RocKs 09-18-2007 07:59 AM

I went to see the Police reunion.. Apparently people don't smoke pot at their concerts like they used to back in the 80s..

geeknik 09-18-2007 08:06 AM

Cool news. :)

SykkBoy 09-18-2007 08:08 AM

I wouldn't mind seeing this reunion...
no need for Sid...but maybe they can just get someone to stand on stage and pretend to play...like he did...

mistergardener 09-18-2007 08:10 AM

Sid Vicious should be there.

Have I ever said I like you?

tony286 09-18-2007 08:35 AM

That would be a cool, show I never got the whole sid thing anyway. He wasnt a musician on any level.

RawAlex 09-18-2007 08:37 AM

John Lydon is actually a pretty darn good performer, I am sure that the show will give everyone their money's worth, even if it is a reunion with half the band dead and gone. But hey...

pixiewillow 09-18-2007 08:39 AM

It seems like it would be entertaining

That simply isn't true about it being half the band. Sid wasn't in the band when the recorded most of the songs people know.

Johnny Rotten tended to make a lot of references to Sid in interviews, and of course the movies and drama surrounding the band tended to involve his name which would help fan those flames in North America.

People forget the nice things that are said, but anything bad is burned in to their minds for life. :)

Jim_Gunn 09-18-2007 09:24 AM

Glen Matlock was the original bassist anyway when they recorded most of their songs. So this IS the original band. Sid Vicious came along at the end and just overshadowed the band with his antics.

Maybe where you live...John Lydon is always around somewhere. I like Public Image Ltd too, if I am honest.
