Nookster 09-17-2007 04:14 PM

TextWrangler on OSX is my fav

StuartD 09-17-2007 04:30 PM

I've tried a few dozen and the absolute best I've found is PHP Designer 2007. It has the best autocompletion of functions and variables that I've seen... no matter how many includes deep you may have created them.

And the manual, doc and phpmyadmin integration is awesome.

It's beaten all the others hands down for functionality, in my opinion.

zend studio is really nice

psili 09-17-2007 04:34 PM

I use Eclipse with some of the additional web developer plugins.

This is my second choice and what I'm using now.... now that I no longer run Windows.

frederix 09-17-2007 04:37 PM

php designer is the best for me but it is not a wysiwyg editor like dreamweaver.
to code with php designer i use a template system to make the html in a separate place in dreamweaver and php code with phpdesigner.

hope this helps.

Masterchief 09-17-2007 04:40 PM

i use editplus.

there is probably better stuff out there, but after 6 years of using it it's hard to change to anything else.

esnem 09-17-2007 04:41 PM

funny, we asked this question in an interview today...

Young 09-17-2007 04:42 PM

Smultron

Sansa 09-17-2007 04:44 PM

I use Zend IDE. It might not have the prettiest interface but I think it's the most functional one. The new version of Zend is based on Eclipse and looks very nice, alas the beta crashes on me at least 3 times a day.

whatever you decide on, be smart and save your work about every half hour, then the most you can loose due to power outage, computer reboot out of nowhere or other fuck ups is a half hours work.
it happens.

Bruce_Miller 09-18-2007 06:28 AM

I've been using Rapid PHP now for a couple of years, and love it, but always looking to see what the next best thing is. Dreamweaver is good for laying out design stuff, but I wouldn't use it to code php.

ServerGenius 09-18-2007 06:31 AM

nothing comes even close to UltraEdit.....

Nails 10-16-2007 10:12 PM

bump for anything new

dissipate 10-16-2007 10:17 PM

UltraEdit is the best on the market for Windows, hands down. If you're developing in linux I reccomend Kate

TMM_John 10-16-2007 10:40 PM

All our guys use UltraEdit

Bro Media - BANNED FOR LIFE 10-16-2007 10:41 PM

Dreamweaver on my main windows machine, coda on this mac laptop, and notepad on my win98 old ibm laptop

STTBoss 10-16-2007 10:49 PM

HomeSite is what you want, I've been using it for years

I already posted what I use (eclipse). Then again, I'm more project based and lately have been working from a couple of different computers on the same projects. So, having an IDE that supports my needs: some code tips, syntax hilites, subversion integration, etc. helps me. Then again, a developer I'm working with uses Emacs with a couple of plugins. He gets around files / code faster than I can with his "snappy" finger clicks.... makes me remember when I used to use other programs and just found something I liked and stuck with. Then tried something new, got used to it and kicked the old bitch to the curb. Probably will happen with another development environment one day.

*shrug*

minusonebit 10-17-2007 12:31 AM

Dreamweaver is OK... as long as you dont have to pay for it.

alby_persignup 10-17-2007 12:37 AM

dreamweaver of course. ;)

AcidMax 10-17-2007 06:49 AM

TextMate on OSX. Nothing compares.

PowerCum 10-17-2007 07:24 AM

Zend Studio for large projects and scripts that require some kind of integration and advanced debug.
Jed or mcedit for small scripts.

c0ld 10-17-2007 07:37 AM

PHP Designer
