Burning Man 2007 (Pic's)
http://randomania.net/Title.jpg It was my fifth year on the playa this year. Had a great group of friends join me. I would say that it was also one of the strangest BMan festivals Ive been too. The wind had been really bad before we arrived and slowed down the production of the city and some of the installations. But it all got going again and everything worked out. This year it seemed to be more about the parties and a few amazing art installations, but not as much art as usual. The clubs went off. The temple was amazing. The man burned twice. And I've been convinced to go back at least once more time. Already getting ideas together for next year. I don't have that many pics to share this year as I shot video this time and quite frankly there wasn't as much to photograph. So I spent a lot of time at the clubs and just meeting people. But here are a few shots that I hope you enjoy. I got there early enough that several things were still being assembled. http://randomania.net/bm07/DSC00127.jpg http://randomania.net/bm07/DSC00123.jpg http://randomania.net/bm07/DSC00112.jpg http://randomania.net/bm07/DSC00164.jpg |

You can see on the tent below where flames from the arson burn fell from the man. http://randomania.net/bm07/DSC00399.jpg |
Great pics.

Great pics, as always! And lovely to see the hugmobile included. :)

This installation called "Crude Awakening" was magnificent. The wooden oil derrick was open for a few days so that you could climb to the top and get a fantastic view of the city. The derrick was burned Saturday night about two hours after the man in what was claimed to be the largest fire ever at Burning Man. And, it was amazing.
http://randomania.net/bm07/DSC00403.jpg This is a night time view of the city from atop the derrick. http://randomania.net/bm07/DSC09155.jpg |
This installation covered about 100 yards. All the blocks were different sizes.

http://randomania.net/bm07/DSC00426.jpg White out conditions approach from behind the man. This storm lasted about 2 hours. http://randomania.net/bm07/DSC00438.jpg This was not EVEN the worst of it! (But they are kinda fun) http://randomania.net/bm07/DSC00439.jpg |
i have a link to a goat pic of me, but i dont think GFY is ready for it

cool pics, wouldn't mind going to it one day. I just wonder where the money comes from to build a lot of that stuff. Also how the hell did they build that tractor trailer set up. That thing must have been thought out pretty well.

Now get this, you could crawl up inside the thing. There were about ten people inside it at a time! The interior was full of (fake) plants/greenery. And it was very, shall we say, intimate inside. http://randomania.net/bm07/DSC09225.jpg http://randomania.net/bm07/DSC09235.jpg Camera settings were wrong the entire day I shot these. :-( |

I know that when he climbed down from the "man" he was greeted (so to speak) by the Black Rock Rangers who took him into custody. I don't think there were many people around when he did this as it was 3:00 AM, the dance clubs were GOING OFF while the full lunar eclipse happened. So most people were either dancing, looking at the sky, or sleeping. And, it was the first night so the smallest population of the week. The alleged arsonist claims he didn't do it and I've heard he has been arrested four more times since he was initially released. I don't agree with what the guy did. But, there is a part of me that says he embodies BMAN culture more than the current event planners. The "no rules" and "rebellious nature" that the event was founded on. Although, it isn't cool to destroy other peoples art. Even so, this guys comes off as a certifiable nut case. (He claims he had accomplices, "Black Rock Intelligence" that actually set the man ablaze and that they are all dead now after taking suicide pills. I'm not kidding.) This is his mugshot from the night of the arrest. http://www.wired.com/images/article/...ddis_630px.jpg And for an amusing read and some insight into how "out there" this guy is, WIRED magazine scored an interview with him just a few days after his arrest. See it here. |
